Understood and fair pt, but resigning MacEwen is the least of our issues. At least he knows his role and does it. I have no issue with him on the 4th line. Brown too. In a perfect world they are your 12th and 13th guys.
The world needs ditch diggers too and so does the NHL. Our pp has been terrible for years (even w g and jake - sorry unrelated but still true). Our pk sucks too so if you tell me you’d rather have guys who can help on special teams, but suck 5 on 5. .. I’m all ears to have them roam around out there on the 4th line for 6 - 5 on 5 mins a night.
Regardless, a physical presence does matter and the flyers have been soft for a long time. Gone are the days we would fill up the back half of our lineup w goons. Those old flyers ways have been in the rear view for a long time and resigning MacEwen does mean there is a resurgence it just means he fills a necessary role which he does. It’s pretty clear here folks don’t value physicality cause it’s been a while since we have had a run in the playoffs where you better have guys that will man up and play the right way.
On most nights we can go into the corner with a carton of eggs and not break any. More importantly we have only one guy interested in clearing the porch, but his coverage in his end is no better than anyone else’s back there.
I agree there are many holes to attack simultaneously, but resigning or not resigning MacEwen does not move the needle for me either way. - Joe Nardone

You and others don't seem to realize that MacEwen is not an effective player. He doesn't play his role. When he is on the ice, the team is outscored and outchanced by a wide margin. He doesn't contribute on special teams. He's not a good defensive winger who can play effectively in holding leads if the team ever gets to that point. So what role does he fill exactly? No, there is no room in the NHL for ditch diggers if you want to be a good team. I'm not sure what some people don't get.
In the bigger picture and what you're also missing is that MacEwen represents the flaw in the Flyers philosophy and what kind of players they value. It's just more archaic dinosaur thinking.
Man up and play the right way. You'd be perfect for the Flyers PR staff. |

Serious question...why does CF still have a job? Why is he not being held accountable? This is the problem with this organization; no accountability at all! |

Because he’s a puppet for Comcast and Clarke. Why fire a guy that’s gonna do whatever you say.
Especially when these muppet fans keep buying tickets for games no matter how bad the on ice product is. |

So, this the worst reason...I'm done with this team until there is accountability for the terrible product they have become. |

The 70 year old Bob Clarke did not pick the GM. He is a figure head, nothing more. |

Your viewpoint is wrong in my opinion. If you don't think that Clarke is a major reason why Fletcher was hired, you're naïve. The two biggest influences on a hockey team are what the team philosophy is and how they're going to approach team building and who is hired to do it. Clarke has and still has major influence over that and overall approach of the team. Clarke and Holmgren. Neither has to be involved day to day for that influence to be present and it clearly is.

Management just has a horrible philosophy. They have blinders on to what’s a putrid roster. Clarke did not do this, the morons in charge did this on their own. |

No, they didn't. When Dave Scott holds a press conference and talks about wanting to be a cap team. Wanting an action bias. That he thinks the team can get right back in it? How did he form those opinions? What his vision for the team is? From his vast hockey experience as a former player, GM or coach? Fletcher was hired because of Clarke. Scott is heavily influenced by Holmgren and Clarke. The evidence of it is overwhelming. Nothing to do with being involved day to day. Fletcher is mandated and has been. |

Or, he wants a competitive team to fill seats. The blaming Clarke is nonsense. |

Not recognizing the core issues of this franchise and the influence the old guard has is missing the boat. Badly. As long as that is present, this team is doomed.

Pure coincidence that Scott chose Clarke's protege to take over the team. He was just hiring the best, most qualified, man for the job. Chuck's long track record of success speaks for itself.

I’m sure someone in the Flyer brass has read some of your posts over the years. Surprisingly you haven’t been offered a job. Obviously your observations on how the team should be run has been laughed at. Armchair gm at its finest. |

The Panthers, the best team in the league, has a 4th line that consists of Joe Thornton and 2 prospects with a combined 16 games of NHL experience. Last I checked Brown isn't even close to Joe's shadow and MacEwen is no where near a prospect. Brown should be sent to LV and then scratched while Macewen should be discarded immediately |

Going back and reading this article is hilarious given the current state of the team. The best part is you can literally feel how excited Craig Leopold is to have foisted Fletcher and company onto a different organization. Seriously, those comments are over the top lol. |
