You are asking the wrong question.
Are the Flyers a better team with any of those 4th liners over Zac? - hello it's me 2050
Doesnt matter. Why are we worrying about the 4th line when we dont even have a line 1,2 or 3?
We can worry about the whole 9 minutes Macewen gets when we actually have a competent top 9. The 4th line is not important to a non playoff team. You dont sit there and fix the 4th line before the 1st line. Your top 9 is whats going to win you games most nights. A typical 4th line gets what? 20 points a season? Thats like 2-3 points per month.

Just read Bill's writeup. Am I the only one with no confidence that Ellis will be in the lineup regularly next season? - Scoob

I agree with you 100%, I just believe that the discussion is no longer about just one player on the 4th line. Rather it’s about the entire bottom-six and how best to utilize the strengths that the organization has with middle-six ceilings level prospects. One point, that doesn’t get brought up often is that the kids the Flyers keep down on the Phantoms if they are not claimed off waivers, are not building trade value at all. |

Maybe because some people can discuss and assess multiple areas of the team at the same time?
The lack of logic in your post is astonishing. Beginning with stating that the 4th line on a non-playoff team is not important. Perhaps it's a part of why the team is a non playoff team when the 4th line is getting caved in and outplayed game after game. Being played situationally and losing whatever momentum is gained. Not to mention that the 4th line in part should be used for developing younger and better players. It's not just how many points a 4th line gets. It's also how many they give up and when.

4th lines always look better on better teams...it's surprising to see 4th liners get raises from other teams only to look meh.

it does matter. To say otherwise is plain stupid. That is what you and others fail to grasp. The goal is to field the best team possible is it not? Maybe you acquire players for your 4th line who can play 13 minutes. Add to special teams. Nah his 9 minutes are not important. Doesn't' matter.
Help me understand why the GM shouldn't be focused on all 4 lines? He can multitask no? He should be looking for ways to improve the team no matter where it takes him. Nah let me focus on line 1 while all the other 3 lines get no attention.
Zac is an AHL players. Say it 10x.

It's a combination of things. If a 4th line is matched up with Keith Yandle, well then it's going to struggle. I'm not sure why some think that the 4th line is the only focus. If it comes up in discussion than it's relevant and a legitimate issue on this team. Regardless of the bigger issues.

Of the 16 playoff teams. Which one is Zac cracking the lineup on?
Zac is an AHL player. Lets say your 4th line was Oscar - Laughton - Zac. Which is more likely:
1. Zac drags that line down.
2. Those 2 can elevate Zac. - hello it's me 2050
I didnt say he was cracking any, but why grumble an $800K guy isn't pulling his weight, he is the least of our problems. If it was our 4th line costing us to finish 4th last, then have at it. But lets work from top down to fix our problems. And by top , i mean GM and Coach to start.

Well the problem I have is not with fixing issues, but the fact this SAME EXACT discussion happens YEARLY with new names. You would think some would learn by now. |

It is a problem. Therefore it should be addressed.
You work in any area you can improve.
