If Lane Lambert is the replacement I”m thinking it was a mutual deal. If he resigns he doesn’t get paid. Why would you keep the team together at the trade deadline to move forward with this group and Fire the head coach. Because nothing else makes sense at this point.

He had one more year left. Apparently Lou is speaking in 10 minutes so hopefully there's some clarification. Maybe they fired him so they could still pay him out of respect? I don't know, this is utterly bizarre.

That's insane. Unless they found out Trotz was, like, torturing prostitutes in his basement or something then I can't make any sense out of this. I'm not sure anyone would argue with me if I said Trotz had more to do with the Isles' success than Lou (although I thought both were doing just fine overall). Hell, that first year Trotz improbably made it to the second round with a team put together almost entirely by Garth Snow; not Lou...that's gotta say something about his impact.

As for this season, I thought Trotz could have given the younger players more ice time when it was clear the team was out of the hunt to evaluate them for next season, but I can't think of anyone except a few morons on Twitter who would argue that Trotz was the reason they fell out of the hunt in the first place. It was just a rough season for a ton of reasons, and many of them were out of the team's control (schedule, COVID, etc).

But if we're looking at the things that were in the team's control, then let's face it...Trotz didn't trade away much of the speed and skill from the blue line or fail to bring in more scoring when it was the most obvious need...

I think what you and NYIsles7 are saying about the money thing sounds plausible. He wanted out and they gave him a send off with his salary.

Babcock would be my dream signing for your team.
