Gudbranson stepped up with 23 minutes and Domingue a good relief appearance for Penguins.

Yup. Markstom gets a playoff shutout and his ex-teammate Louis Domingue, of all people, steals his thunder

And an ex-Canuck goaltender just pitched a shutout in his first playoff game in Calgary. Remember when Marky couldn't get shutouts? Now that's his thing.

(Abby loses 2-1 in overtime; Podz with the only goal...)

Always nice to see guys who gave it their all as a Canuck have some success with their new teams.

Too bad Motte got hurt.

I can appreciate great Goaltending when I see it. Stopping pucks over the span of 60 minutes of hockey is hard enough physically.

I love the endurance these guys show in extra long games. Both skaters and Goalies.

- Load Management

It's a crazy grind to play that long. There just wasn't a lot of life left after the first overtime. No penalties called after the second. Rangers had 75 giveaways.

the hockey being played was starting to look pretty bad. The players were exhausted. DeSmith now hurt.

It's the first game of the playoffs and the toll will be felt probably throughout the rest of the playoffs.

Cash aside,if you’re Boudreau, would u want to return to coach the Canucks after what Rutherford and Allvin had to say? They clearly aren’t impressed: questioning team’s structure, zone exits and dependency on Demko.Big thanks for injecting wins and energy into a stale franchise

Rutherford says he wants him back. Allvin says he wants him back. Boudreau says wants to come back.

BUT the subtext says Vancouver is getting a new coach next season.

Or you just read the athletic too much I'll wink also

Ya I'm just joking around with the JTM thing.. trade him, don't trade him... IMO trading him is the best long-term solution to a number of Canucks problems, but I'm not a GM (neither are any of you nitwits) so I'm just happy enough that Benning isn't calling the shots on this anymore.

Incredibly random question for a Wednesday morning:

How did Dermott perform for the Canucks?

Do you want him in your lineup next year?

Like Vanilla ice cream. If the job is to get calories in you, and avoid picky eaters, mission accomplished. Only the most childish of fans had any issues.

I am always joking around also. In all seriousness though, trade him, don't trade him.

I'm absolutely trying my darnedest to find the next Wiliam Karlsson, Chandler Stephenson, Mason Marchment, Carter Verhaguage, Ryan Hartman, Andre Burakowsky, or Michael Bunting.

Finding one of those would allow Canucks to trade Miller for assets that can be used for other areas.

Canucks problem is the cupboards have only what they still need and nothing that they have excess off.

Just hope that one or two of the prospects make a good size leap in the summer time.

To answer your question is that did he show top 4 potential. No, IMO he did not. Is 1.5M respectable for a 3rd pairing defender, sure. Just not good for a spare.

It won't be that hard for another defender to come in and surpass him.

So the new management is going to leave Bruce a lame duck coach. They "want him back under his current deal". Not going to extend him any time soon. Will decide at the end of this contract they are saying.

Hmmm... seen this movie recently....

I spread myself too thin. There are 12 of us so it’s deep and difficult to load up on just 2 teams. But I limited myself to CGY/COL/FLA/BOS

CGY has a nice path to WCF, DAL and then winner of LA/EDM so I loaded up on them the most.

Bruins pick looking rough so far

He brought some much needed color to the dressing room. So much in fact Rutherford said there will be a renovation now.

Which is nice.

Media trying to stir poop up. It's completely understandable that new management would say "Listen we didn't hire you, and we don't want to commit long term right away and hamstring ourselves, so play this year out and if it goes well we can discuss an extension"

A while back, Rutherford mentioned how he was consulted by FA/Smyl(I think), that they were considering hiring Boudreau and he was fine with it then.
Boudreau also knew that it was for the remainder of the season and an option for next season.
No big deal, as far as I am concerned.

Remember the media hysteria with Green's contract coming to an end. The national media even jump on.
