Might as well start the list of potential new coaches.

Still top of my list from before.

David Quinn . Coaching team USA right now.

Coaches with no previous NHL head coaching experience but Asst experience.

Mike Van Ryn STL Blues. Long resume in coaching at many levels.

Darby Hendrickson 12 seasons asst in Minnesota.

Jeff Halpern TB lighting asst coach.

Media trying to stir poop up. It's completely understandable that new management would say "Listen we didn't hire you, and we don't want to commit long term right away and hamstring ourselves, so play this year out and if it goes well we can discuss an extension"
- NorthNuck

Dhaliwal and Taylor were going on about a 3 year deal at 3M per season to get Bruce to come back.

Pretty sure they were also the ones saying that if Green was not extended he would be snatched up immediately. Also saying he had done excellent work with the team he was handed and deserved the extension.

Remember the media hysteria with Green's contract coming to an end. The national media even jump on.

Eeli Tolvanen, Klim Kostin, Janne Kuokkanen, Curtis Lazar, Noah Gregor, Dryden Hunt, Joel Kiviranta, and Joe Veleno.

I think if Van could just find a way to acquire some of these players for little to absolutely nothing they could make up a very good bottom 6 in the future.

Something like

Tolvanen Veleno Kuokkanen
Hunt Lazar Gregor

Hunt was a healthy scratch last night(maybe waivers next season). Lazar is a free agent and a RHC. Plus from Salmon arm.

I went to see who the asst coaches of Pitt were and I didn't really care for them.

If Green had no been extended he might very well have gotten another job right away. But those first 25 games in Vancouver…career buzzkill!

That's possible. Some team would have been screwed over by Van media, thinking Green was a decent coach.

Maybe Rutherford can trade Bruce to Ottawa for a 2nd round pick. Ottawa could use a better coach.

Canucks could use a 2nd round pick in this draft.

If Bruce isn't back, what happens to the rest of the staff? Usually new coach brings a couple guys with him. Shaw seemed to improve defence and 5v5 play. Scottie Walker does PK? Is he on the same contract as Bruce? Gustafsson was also brought in by Benning.

I think the only way Bruce isn’t back is if some other team offers him a 5 year deal.

Not according to JR, he said they rely on Demko too much and need to move the puck out of their own end better, as well as come up with D systems when they do get into trouble.

That falls on Shaw.

I missed the context of why Ruthy said that. Was he talking about systems/coaching, or player personnel, or just a general comment?

I read it to mean the team isn't structured well enough to carry the puck out of their end. Didn't happen under Green (most aggravating self-cycle in their own zone), didn't happen under a more up tempo Bouds... meaning the players are sort of poop at it. Now the coach can help that, but the best thing to help that is to get players who can actually do that consistently.

I read it as we're not going to give you an extension then ask the owner to pay for another coach.

Considering that he wasn't here last season or the years before. Even the eye test will tell you, it was WAY better than it was. Not to Rutherford's standards though.

That falls a lot on forwards, coming back and making themselves available. Moving to passing lanes to receive the puck.

As I said Pittsburgh is a good analytical team. They don't depend on goaltending, even though I'd say probably half the playoffs teams do.

When asked about what job Bruce has done.

8:30 is when it starts in the interview.

"As much out of players as he could get"

"Exits from defensive zone not good, probably one of the worst in the league"

"Defensemen that are certainly capable of playing better with better structure."

"Something that is very fixable"

It's more a knock on forwards and not making themselves available. The team not moving together, playing together.

It(zone exits) had to have been much better under Boudreau. I don't know the actual numbers, no non pay sites put out that info.

When Bruce first came, there was a lot of dump the puck high off the boards and a high forward pressure the other teams D. That worked a bit but you aren't keeping possession. When they did that less, other teams goals started to go up, defence creating more offence but also making more mistakes.

First 30 games under Bruce GAA was 2.53 the next 29 games were 2.93.

Canucks were scoring more in the second set of games as well though.
