Co-work last week telling me how great Matthews is at killing penalties. He watches every Leaf game. He used to play with Chris Dreiger, goalie for Seattle. Told him Matthews isnt/wasnt on the PK. Nhl.com showed Matthews played 5 minutes of PK time all season. He was totally shocked. Was very sure that Matthews was playing a ton of PK.

That’s kinda what Spector was getting at with his information on Twitter. They both play an important role defensively for their teams. Leaf media/fans perpetrated this myth that Matthews is the be-all-end-all defensively in all situations, it’s just not true. He doesn’t play the PK like Draisaitl, he doesn’t take important defensive zone faceoffs in all situations like Draisaitl, etc.

Even strength yeah, him and Marner have the puck a lot and they’re good at defending because you don’t have to defend when you have the puck.

But it was a great 5mins 😂

No goals were scored against while he was on the Pk. 😆

Draisaitl is a fully complete power goal scorer.

Matthews more gifted offensively not by much.

Best all around C’s imo are still Bergeron & Crosby but Draisaitl is close. Points are not everything but he’s the heir apparent if not already.

He played 1800 shifts with him over the games they played together this year. That’s not every shift by any means, it not quite not playing together either. https://www.statmuse.com/...ayed+together+2021%2F2022

You are playin Allvin…

Assuming you move out some cap in some form is up to you to decide who & how.

Next is Boeser you resign for how much & how long?

1st tough decision…
Do you resign JTM?
If yes term & $?

2nd task is do you trade or sign a UFA(s) for holes & depth? Names if possible.

The argument that Draisaitl plays with McDavid is just a bunch of compete BS. Yes he plays on the same team as McDavid but so what…are all of Crosby’s accomplishments now garbage because he plays with Malkin?

Draisaitl has three 100+ point seasons in the past four, an Art Ross, a Hart trophy, and a Ted Lindsay, he’s an unbelievable player. Matthews never had more than 80 points until this year. Matthews is a great player but for me I’d prefer Draisaitl.

I just think Draisaitl has been around long enough to be judged on his own merits. Matthews is a great player but he’s kind of the flavor of the month because he scored 60 goals this year after only having one 80 point season whereas Draisaitl has accomplished a lot more. Yes he plays with probably the best player in the world, but not exclusively. It’s like saying you’d rather have Steven Stamkos than Sidney Crosby as a center because Crosby plays with Malkin.

Now do total Leon shifts. It doesn't even really matter, I'd take half the time with either as I would full time with Marner.

Whatever, Lefty supplemented the name in the first place. I really DGAF. Like I said, Matthews has a really good case as best player in the world.

What if they were saying they'd rather have Stamkos than Malkin because Malkin plays with Crosby?

I don't care about the point totals as much as you do, I think there's a much better chance Matthews could neutralize one of the two than either neutralizing Matthews.

I don't watch Leafs hockey, unless they are playing Boston in playoffs,so I can't say if he is any good, but Draisaitl is a beast and is behind only 2 players in this league, MacKinnon and McDavid.

Semantics really, they’re all great players.

Malkin >> Stamkos all day every day….but Stammer is a great player in his own right.

He still is, but yeah, he was such a good goal scorer, not exactly a great puck distributor for a center though. Much like Matthews. Which is why in roughly the same number of games Malkin has roughly 200 more points and why I’d take him over Stamkos, given their defensive games were somewhat similar.

When it comes to Matthews vs drai it's 407 GP 457 pts vs 558 GP 616 pts. PPG for Mathews without the McDavid advantage.

As for the Malkin advantage, 60 more games 164 more points playing with Crosby or having him draw coverage.

I still think Draisaitl is better at this point and you’ll never convince me otherwise
