Truthfully though, I just like Draisaitl’s overall game better. Three 100+ point seasons out of the past four. I think it was Mark Spector who debunked the myth on his Twitter feed that Matthews is better defensively. They both play an important defensive role for their teams. Draisaitl took some three or four hundred more faceoffs than Matthews this year, he kills penalties, takes most of the defensive zone faceoffs, over a point per game player in the playoffs, he’s just a great overall player. So is Matthews.

Truthfully though, I just like Draisaitl’s overall game better. Three 100+ point seasons out of the past four. I think it was Mark Spector who debunked the myth on his Twitter feed that Matthews is better defensively. They both play an important defensive role for their teams. Draisaitl took some three or four hundred more faceoffs than Matthews this year, he kills penalties, takes most of the defensive zone faceoffs, over a point per game player in the playoffs, he’s just a great overall player. So is Matthews.

Matthews plays with Marner, and Tavares and Nylander. It works both ways and Draisaitl played on his own line 5 on 5 for most of the past two years.

That # 2 on the Kings is a pretty good defenseman.

I think you’re missing the point, I like Draisaitl’s game better. Why is that hard for you to accept? I said Matthews is an unbelievable player. And Draisaitl doesn’t play with McDavid, although that’s still a convenient argument for people who don’t watch Oiler games. Yeah they play on the PP together and occasionally five on five but Draisaitl played with RNH and Hyman last year, this year it’s Hyman and Yamamoto, and or Kane now.

And yes, I watch the occasional Leaf game, Mitch Marner isn’t McDavid but Draisaitl doesn’t play exclusively with McDavid like Matthews does with Marner, who’s a fantastic player himself, he plays with guys who can barely score 50 points.

I think Draisaitl is a better player, if I were building a team, than Matthews is!! But I’d take either.

The argument that Draisaitl plays with McDavid is just a bunch of compete BS. Yes he plays on the same team as McDavid but so what…are all of Crosby’s accomplishments now garbage because he plays with Malkin?

Draisaitl has three 100+ point seasons in the past four, an Art Ross, a Hart trophy, and a Ted Lindsay, he’s an unbelievable player. Matthews never had more than 80 points until this year. Matthews is a great player but for me I’d prefer Draisaitl.

Nhl.com showed Matthews played 5 minutes of PK time all season. He was totally shocked. Was very sure that Matthews was playing a ton of PK.
