I just did a lotto sim and it had us only moving up to 2nd(7 spots) and Columbus 3rd (9 spots).

Montreal stayed at #1.

Hows this work?

- DirtyDan

That's not possible. If Montreal doesn't win a lottery, it can't pick 1 or 2. If Buffalo wins a lottery, it must pick one or two.

At least in this scenario.

If a team 12 or beyond wins both lotteries, MTL will still pick 1.

Sounds like maybe Columbus won but Buffalo bumped them down after winning lottery 2? There's a sample of what kingcong was asking about. Keep in mind it's just a fan site tho, so who knows if the simulator got it right.

Ahh Columbus at 12 not 11 my mistake. So Ion is right that if the first lotto winner gets 2 and a team wins the second lotto for #2 they bump team #1 down.

Cool. Thank you,

In that specific simulation, MTL can't possibly pick 1. Because Columbus can't bump Buffalo if both win.

I personally don't think that the winner of lottery #1 can get bumped at all. I think they can be passed (15 moving to 5, for example, then a top 11 team winning lotto 2 and picking 2nd).

Who knows, we'll never get an explanation of it until/unless it happens

It doesn't show the winner just showed who moved up and down. Had Montreal staying at 1.

Its just a simulator so idek if its 100% correct

2nd lottery drawing is not for pick #1, so the best the 2nd winner could ever draft is 2nd

"The 2nd overall pick is awarded by a drawing of ping pong balls. If a team in the 12-16 range won the first drawing, the worst team keeps the 1st pick and is excluded from the second drawing. Like the first drawing, the second winner can only jump ten spots."

All in all, if one team in the top 11 wins and one team outside the top 11 wins, the former picks 1 no matter what.

Edit-Read the rules I'm wrong.

I had thought Columbus was #11 not #12 so I was confused on how they only jumped up 9 spots.

They would have been pick #2 had Buff not won the second lottery for the #2 pick.

I got it now i think haha

Your sim is right according to Stash's link. Columbus won the 1st lotto and got pick 2. Sabres won the 2nd lotto and retook pick 2 and bumped Columbus to 3. And Montreal came out unscathed like the (frank)ing hedonists they are.

I was confusing an outdated lottery rule I think.

Gerbe said he turned down an offer and Buffalo wasnt thrilled with him doing so.
- ImThatGuy

Yes, I understand that he did. Does that automatically mean he didn't want to be here, or he had serious questions.
I'd say the former, and rightly so.
They want him to sign long term in 2 years time...then build a Winner.
Good message sent to the FO, IMO of course.
Good on him.

I dont know.
I could see a team moving up 10 spots in the 1st drop to get into 2nd based on the 10 spot jump limit, then get pushed back when the winner of the 2nd drop moves into 2.
Don't see how your scenario plays out.

Edit,
Here's how it worked...
CBus is 12th; they won the 1st Lottery for #2 OA, but were limited to pick 2 by virtue of the 10 pick jump limit.
Then Buffalo won the 2nd Lottery for #2 OA, thereby pushing Cbus back.

Not correct.
Invoke the 10 spot jump rule, you will see it worked perfectly.

You're only allowed to apply a 17% Tim Murraying offseason to this version of the Sabres. Anything beyond is a fireable offense.

"Jack Eichel looks forward to stable offseason with knights"

You are over the cap, and need to add at least 3 bodies to the NHL roster, good luck with sable eich.
