Seriously dude you gotta smoke some weed or something and calm down. It is not an "absolutely horrid" return. It's a 1st round pick, a late pick sure, but as I just stated above, Danny Briere was a late 1st rounder. You can hit on a good player there. ROR was a 33rd overall.

Levi is the best goalie prospect right now. That's not horrid no matter when he plays.

The return that both players received was absolutely underwhelming. The Sabres at the time of the trade were at a disadvantage because of their history of handling Sam's contract negotiations coupled with the continued failures of this franchise.

This conversation is and will forever be circular regarding the return on Hall and Reinhart, but I won't directly blame the GM for being incompetent because of a sub par trade. You take what the market gives you. It is what it is, and the Sabres made out by getting an elite goaltending prospect. A prospect is just that, but if he plays like Shesterkin this past season, he can will this team into the playoffs. But I digress.

I'm a little tired of the Reinhart and Hall post trade discussion. But you can only do what the market allows you to do. Unless you're Jason Botterill and Terry Pegula dealing Ryan O'Reilly.

It does because it gave the public a sense of the market for RFA-soon to be UFA wingers with top 6 skill. It became clear that those niche players were not as valuable as their play suggests.

On the contrary, same-age/situation RDs value was exploding.

So, give and take.

Now factor in the fact that Sam held all the cards; Arb rights for 1 year at market value then to UFA status. Could Adams have received more if he signed him to the 1 year deal then, and traded him at this past deadline as a pending UFA. I'd say no. He did just fine in that context.

The error, IMO was signing him to a 1 year deal the year before, not the value he got back.
