Now factor in the fact that Sam held all the cards; Arb rights for 1 year at market value then to UFA status. Could Adams have received more if he signed him to the 1 year deal then, and traded him at this past deadline as a pending UFA. I'd say no. He did just fine in that context.

The error, IMO was signing him to a 1 year deal the year before, not the value he got back.
I haven't heard one iota of talk that Adams turned down a better deal. He got market faluexat the time.

IF Sam went to Arb and we had the season we just had.. maybe a little better with him playing.. (Tage still breakout at Center) And seeing Eichel and Risto miss the playoffs...

Does he sign here this offseason or is he still gon' you think?

On the contrary, same-age/situation RDs value was exploding.

So, give and take.

Except when the Sabres had 347 RhD's ... then the market for them crashed...couldn't give them away.
Funny how the market keeps turning away from what the Sabres have available.

I think there’s a chance he signs but who knows.

My point has always been it would’ve been worth the risk because you would’ve gotten the same package at the deadline

Fair question.
Chances are if Sam stayed , he would have been played at 1C rather than Tage based on the love Donny professed for Sam at the end of last season. Does Donnie make him 2C or try to use Mitts and Cozens.

Too many comp, icationz to settle that one IMO.
Good question though.

If Sam was here, he would be a toxic personality in the room and think he was the man after Eichel's departure and we wouldn't have gelled until he was traded but by then for sure would have been bottom 5 and gotten the same return at the TDL, imo.

I don't get it really. I think that we got a great return for Eichel and Risto and could have gotten a little more for Reinhart but a combination of three 1sts, two Roster players, two prospects is nothing to sneeze at.
- BeadyEyedDouche

Best thing about the Eichel trade was getting the Cancer out of the Locker room. Tuch and Krebs ++ is the cherry on top.

we lost 26 games by 2 goals or less out of the 50 games we lost in either regulation, ot or shootout

if we had skunk, we would be closer to the bruins in the standings then the red wings

How did he get owned on the Eichel trade?

tuch, value of a 1st
Krebs, again, value of a 1st
a first
And a 2nd

What more were you expecting beyond that?

- Mentalorgasm5

Tuch is not worth a first, he's ideally a 2nd liner on a good team. And you don't trade first round picks for 2nd liners.

Krebs is also not worth a first. On what (frank)ing planet is he worth a first when an actual established 1st line player in Reinhart is worth a late first and a goalie prospect. Zach Fucale says hi.

I've already made my position perfectly clear, (frank) him, let him rot, or he can finish out his contract. The only way I'm trading a player of his caliber is for a player of his caliber and age.

And why would I trade Barkov for a malcontent? And for those that think Barkov and Eichel are not equal, at least in relation to Reinhart: Barkov scored 1.31 points per game this year while Reinhart scored 1.05. The last full season Eichel and Reinhart played together(18-19) Eichel scored 1.06 and Reinhart scored .79. Barkov +.26 Eichel +.27. It's actually a lot worse for Reinhart in shortened 19-20 where Eichel was +.43.

Well of course not. Why would he?

Sam had a year left. He wasn’t a UFA deadline deal where Adams had to make the deal and run.

But yes, they screwed him up from day 1 back to Botterill signing him to a bridge

- sbroads24

Didn't say that though.
Last offseason, Sam had Arb rights for a 1 year contract to take him to UFA status at the end of this season.
Hence, Adams' options last offseason were to:
A) go down the above stated ArB to UFA 1 year contract and then trade him this past TDL (6 weeks ago), or
B) trade him for market value last offseason.

He wisely chose B. The gamble with A was too high...Sabres luck is he gets hurt 2 days before the TDL and Adams is screwed.

Reinhart >> Tuch

Reinhart barely worth a first but Tuch is a bonafide 1st round asset

I see that the lottery broadcast is at 6:30. Are they really showing the results that early?

It looks like we have a 5% chance at #1, 5.5% chance at #2 and a 23.5% chance at falling back to 10.
