I'm actually pretty surprised at the part about a couple Isles players not being shocked at the firing. Certainly starting to sound like he may have a lost a good chunk of the room. - eichiefs9
In hindsight, if it's true, it does kind of make sense. Perhaps the core got tired of playing the system. Maybe they wanted to play more run-and-gun. It could be why the team was so bad this year. It could also explain why Wally and Tito were sat so much. Desperation.

Nope. There is a reason he wins though and that’s because he makes the team play a low event d system. It wears thin on players after a while but it gets results. No way the isles make the conference finals the past couple years without that system. - TurdFergeson
Absolutely agree. |

My major issue with that is that the Islanders do not have even close to the kind of offensive firepower to play a run-and-gun style. If Lou is going to hire the kind of coach that wants to play like that then he better be prepared to bring in some real offensive talent. Andy Greene breaking out of the zone by chipping it off the glass in the general direction of Zach Parise isn't going to cut it. |

Not surprised by it at all. Barzal especially wore it on his sleeve imo. Not saying he was wrong or right about having said negative feelings but the guy seemed visually pissed at his situation at times. Only thing I would be shocked at is if he weren’t one of the players not surprised by trotz being fired. |

Like you said in an earlier post this should be a busy offseason for lameriello. Unless of course he actually believes this is all on trotz and this team is just peachy. Let’s hope that’s not the case team needs to cut ties with some players. |

At this point it has to be a busy offseason for Lou. Trotz's system hid a lot of the flaws that this roster currently has. A new, more free-flowing system is going to expose the complete lack of speed and skill. |

Oh, I completely agree with you. This team, as currently constructed, does not have the talent nor the speed to play an up-tempo style. |

The same source as below indicated to me back in February if it came down to choosing between Trotz and Barzal, the #isles choose Barzal. And now, here we are. |

I think our defense with the kids playing would be fine. Offense needs help.

Indeed. And that worries me if Barzal has that kind of power in the organization. |

Barzal did not seem happy at all. Barry is a great coach and I would have kept him but it's very difficult trying to win each game 1-0 or 2-1. Barzal is an offensive player. We cannot play the no defense of Cappy and Doug days but there needs to be a happy medium and the Isles have to do a better job especially developing young forwards. Lou has to take his share of blame as well. Best of luck to Barry and Thanks for the success! - ses111

How could I not come back with this news? Will not be a dull off-season for sure. - ses111
It’s going to be real funny when he hires a new coach and brings back Chara, Greene, and the same team |

I said this awhile back that he was getting fired and here we are today. First year in a state of the arena and they miss the playoffs. Saw this coming. |
