Babcock is a terrible coach. Massive under achiever in Detroit.
- Feds91Stammer

Yeah, I was just looking into his stats and other items. I don't want him on the island. Besides underachieving, he appears to be not very well liked by anyone.

Between the Marner stuff and the things Franzen has said yeah he’s just not the guy.

I guess we'll see who the hire is in the next few weeks or so.

Wonder if they’re parting ways with the entire staff. I had been interested in Lambert taking over in Detroit.

I have to go back and check the quotes, but I believe Lou said that the rest of the coaching staff remains with the team for now but the new coach will have the option to bring in his own staff.

Everyone but Trotz, including Lambert/Korn, are still listed on the Isles website. Have to imagine Korn goes with Barry but Lambert may be ready to cut the umbilical cord and try and get a head coaching gig here or elsewhere

Lou’s son is the heir apparent most likely imo. With that said lameriello does stuff like this. He wasn’t happy with some what trotz did and saw the team stopped listening. That’s it. I don’t think there’s some other secret thing going on imo. I don’t agree with it but whatever. This is Lameriello.

I have a scary feeling that was the promise made to Lou. That his inept son would replace him. Dark times may be right around the corner again

What were the circumstances behind Trotz leaving Nashville?

It’s weird that he won a cup in WSH and they let him go right after that. Now, the isles let him go after three really good seasons and a fourth that wasn’t great, but mostly due to a deficient roster, Covid and the odd schedule.

I’m still perplexed by this decision. And the more I think about it, the less sense it makes to simply hire Lambert. He will likely run the same system the players apparently grew tired of under Trotz. But if you hire a coach with a more offensive approach, the isles don’t have the personnel to play that game. So frustrating…

I’m tired of the excuses. This team would not have made the playoffs if no player ever got Covid and they didn’t have a long road trip. It’s madness to think this was anything other than just being too old, too slow and a lack of talent. Assembled by the great Lou Lamoriello. It’s time someone relieved him of a job

I posted on here earlier in the season that some proper perspective on Trotz career as a "great coach' is needed. Until his cup win in 2018, he was the Marty Schottenheimer of the NHL. On Nashville with some pretty good teams it took him 12 years to win a playoff series. After being dismissed from Nashville, they went on to the conference finals twice in the next three years, including a SCF. He didn't make it past round two until his 19th season with a top flight Caps roster.
The consensus is that his system takes a mental and physical toll on the players, in which case we likely benefitted by having two seasons drastically cut short. Barry runs a disciplined system that almost always keeps games close but it always seems his teams reach a peetering out point.

Don't get me wrong, I would NOT have let him go, but the true story on his legacy probably needs a fair perspective. He puts up overachiever regular seasons but in over 20 years he's found his way to the cup finals once.

Can't underestimate the allure of working with Sorokin for another year. Additionally, there is no guarantee Trotz will even return to coaching

I very much hope Korn sticks around, but given his track record of following Barry from Nashville to Washington and then to the Island...I'm not super optimistic that will happen

Unquestionably if Barry takes another HC position there is a high likelihood Mitch leaves too although keep in mind they are all under contract.

He’s going to Detroit with Lambert to turn Cossa into an elite goalie.

Dude, when calculating the average age of a team, you include everybody. The fact of the matter is that the Isles were the 4th oldest team in the league this year. It has been discussed many, many times in here that most of us feel the team needs to get younger. If/when Chara and Greene come off the books/retire, yes, the average age will drop. The team also needs to get faster. Just simple facts.

how convenient leaving the two most geriatric of the bunch off that list NJ specials Zach and Kyle. Easily two of the goofiest stupid signings....in recent memory.

Not sure what your point is. Greene is 39 and Chara is 45. Palms is only 31 and Parise is 37. So if Chara & Greene both retire then yes, Parise would be the oldest member by a few years.
I wasn't making a list of old guys on the team. I was simply stating that if Greene & Chara retire or don't return the team will be younger. I don't know what I "convenient"ly left off some list.

Who knows what he does. Dreger did tweet something about word on the street being that Trotz may (yes Dreger, hence the word "may") be interested in a management position

I still believe changes are coming. Guys going I can see: Bailey, Beau, Wally or Bellows in trade, Chara Greene retiring. I see a lot of spots open. Raty should take one and defensive side Hutton or Salo gets a spot. Varlamov might be moved too. The Islanders need to get faster and bigger

No idea who the next #Isles coach will be but starting to hear it's unlikely Mitch Korn will remain as the director of goaltending. That would be Korn's choice and is not tied to Barry Trotz being fired yesterday.

Probably just sugar coating the exit. Wonder if learning of his pending departure made that decision easier fo Lou. Mitch is 64 now
He may be ready to move on to other things . He's from the Bronx. I hope he doesn't head to a childhood favorite

https://www.eliteprospect...-physical-stats/2021-2022 Islander's roster was avg of 29.16 which was 4th olders.. remove Chara and Greene it goes to an average of 28.03 which is 10th oldest.

the core is not OLD.. the 1 year depth signings were.
