As far as the reason why he sent Trotz packing... I really don't Know and kinda think some of the speculation on here is probably right.

Maybe he asked him to sing an extension and Trotz would not, or maybe Trotz asked him for an extension and Lou told him we will see how this year goes (Lou always uses the time he has in contract negotiations).

some speculation that he may have lost the room.. Barzal a few of you mentioned. I mean we have all complained at how he handled the younger guys on the team. He has no problem scratching or Benching Barzal, Beau, Whalstrom, Salo, etc... but when it comes to Vets they can do no wrong (Bailey, Chara, Greene, have never missed a friggin shift). Maybe that was finally annoying the "core" young guys on the team. that last time he scratched Beau for a few games he certainly didn't come back flying. He looked lethargic if anything when he came back.. Whalstrom siting "tough love" in his exit interviews speaks volumes. He was one of the most dynamic players on the ice for us and barely got any time on the ice. a few reporters would ask Trotz constanly.. "He scored in the 2nd period and only played 2 minutes the rest of the game...?" etc.

I don't like the move.. but am going to hope that it works (highly unlikely).

I hear some assistant coach named Jack Capuano might be available. He's supposed to be pretty good. Wonder if he would consider coaching this team.

Babcock would be interesting b/c of his history with Matt Martin.

I can't imagine Joel Q would be the hire given the Blackhawks issues

Toronto had a lot more offensive firepower than this team and he couldn't get anywhere with them. I think he was let go because he lost the room as well. Don't remember. Not sure what he could do with this group.

It's not Barry Trotz's fault the Islanders are old ( 4th oldest in the league) and slow.
He played the style he needed to have success, which he did except for this year.
Seems to me the brutal schedule at the start of the year affected the entire season, and another year with Trotz would make sense.
Uncle Lou will change coaches as the wind changes direction.
If I was a coach looking for a job, I would make sure my contract was guaranteed 100% before signing with the Islanders.

So who is the next coach, you know Lou will go for experience and a big name, that’s his style.

John Tonelli for HOF

John Tonelli. His name keeps coming up on this board, so it must be big.

Babcock lost the room when he made the rookie Marner tell him which players were not working hard in practice, and then blabbed the results to the rest of the team, singling out Kadri as a floater.
Babcock apologized but the players never trusted him after that stunt.

This firing doesn't sound at all like a "youth issue" or a "barzal" issue at all to me.

It's got all the stink of the NJ Devils connection. Count the amount of garden state manure on this team now.

next head coach will be Ken Danyko, you read it here first.

I doubt Lou would hire someone with no coaching experience just because he has previous ties. If he did we would seriously question his mental faculties.

My sources indicate Lou’s first choice is Patrik Elias.

Martin St.Louis and his peewee team on line 1.

Also he did well coaching a team that was miles away from the playoffs and playing with no pressure whatsoever. Commendable, for sure, but the Isles performed very well under Weight once Capuano was fired. We all know how the next season went.

What were the circumstances behind Trotz leaving Nashville?

It’s weird that he won a cup in WSH and they let him go right after that. Now, the isles let him go after three really good seasons and a fourth that wasn’t great, but mostly due to a deficient roster, Covid and the odd schedule.

I’m still perplexed by this decision. And the more I think about it, the less sense it makes to simply hire Lambert. He will likely run the same system the players apparently grew tired of under Trotz. But if you hire a coach with a more offensive approach, the isles don’t have the personnel to play that game. So frustrating…

i did notice that the team played a bit better and more fired up when lambert was HC for those couple of games, wonder if there is something there

This is the dumb Toronto calling card.. "we are old".. except we aren't old..
our Core long term signs are not old. Take Chara and Greene who are not core players and what's our Avg age?

Barzal is 24, Beau is 24, Bellows is 23, Casy is 30, Dobson is 22, Brock is 30, Palmieri is 30, Pelech is 27, Pulock is 27, Sorokin is 26, wahlstrom is 21, JGP is 29, Mayfiled is 29... But yeah..

we are old b/c we have a 39 year old and a HAD a 45 year old on 1 year deals. I guess the leafs got old b/c of Giordano and spezza.. right? idiotic.

Dude, when calculating the average age of a team, you include everybody. The fact of the matter is that the Isles were the 4th oldest team in the league this year. It has been discussed many, many times in here that most of us feel the team needs to get younger. If/when Chara and Greene come off the books/retire, yes, the average age will drop. The team also needs to get faster. Just simple facts.

I'm not sold on Babcock but maybe he could do something with this team and get to the finals.

Babcock is a terrible coach. Massive under achiever in Detroit.
