They both shoot right handed, but Rutta can and does play LHD. |

What's Calgary giving the Sabres for that cooked 4th liner who can barely keep up in the league anymore? |

Like Ruttu and didn't know that. He's solid defensively and Gubs can bring the Hammer. I could deal with it. |

It would allow them to deploy the Power - Jokiharju pair more optimally while having a physically imposing 3rd pair. Plus it's realistic compared to the other options. |

Well thought out, I like how the top 4 finished the year, but I would like to see if they could upgrade Joker. Maybe move him to 3rd pair especially if you can get a decent RD in the draft. |

I think the cost it'll take to get a top 4 RHD along with the way Adams seems to be going about things makes that unlikely.
Adding at least one veteran bottom pairing defenseman seems more likely. |

Or we have Bryson, Fitz & Pysyk manning 3rd pair duties
The guys u bring up are a physical upgrade, but idk how much better they are overall
We certainly could do what you’re suggesting
But my guess would be that Adams isn’t gonna makes the number of moves many here seem to want
Other than a “1A” goalie,
we don’t actually have any “needs” if the plan for now is to continue to develop the youth
I’m not saying we shouldn’t make a move (or multiple ones) if it makes sense
But we’ve all gotta remember that it doesn’t matter if we think it makes sense
It matters what makes sense to Adams in conjunction with the overall plan |

If the sweetener is right I do it...not a bad idea to have a little muscle in the forward ranks and it's only for 1 yr. the kids can play a little braver and it helps get to the cap floor.
Prime examples for needing some muscle:
Islanders go after Skinner...Sabres have no one to answer Martin and Johnston.
Long before what happened to Troy Terry I expected to happen to a Sabre forward once they got the all for one attitude luckily it didn't

Sadly I agree with you...the bare minimum moves.
Also agree with your thoughts on PK88...not giving up assets for him. I watched a few Chicago games and he looked slow
Now off to the golf course

I would be surprised if either is there at 9 when the Sabres pick, but I think people would be very happy if one of the two was the pick at 9.

I would be, Jiricek is pretty high on my board, but think everyone knows that. |

You're OK with Lucic being the only forward addition then?
It looks like there is only room to add one.

His contract would fit the Peggy Bank mentality, especially if they traded for him after his bonus was paid as his salary is only $1M this coming season, compared to his cap hit of $5M.
Economic, efficient, and lean. |

If they are adding a middle 6 I would rather it be Nichushkin or Crouse |

Agreed. As you said, trading for Lucic feels like adding a Boychuck. |

Fwiw he's been one of their best players in the playoffs. I don't want his slow ass either, but he isn't completely cooked yet someone will take him. He's on a 6M deal that pays out half of that this year in actual cash. |

He looks "good" because they are playing the slow as hell, neutral zone clogging Dallas Stars, but how good has he been playing if a coach like Sutter is only playing him 9 minutes a night, which is the least playing time of their forwards?
He won't look so good when playing a team that has a faster tempo to their game.
His salary is only $1M this season if teams wait to trade for him until after his bonus has been paid. |
