Do we know that Kane even wants to come here? Doesn't he have a NTC? Is this a fireable offense if KA can't get him to waive? - Powerslave
Yes , of course
KA drops from a C- to a D+ if pk88 doesnt waive for buffalo |

They will never trade the Cat, they need to get younger and cheaper. Kane and Toes are the best options to get traded.
I would be shocked if one or both are not gone at the draft.

I've been a champion of 'look at this team from 3/1 on', but I still don't think we can compete with the top 6-8 teams in the league.
I think that comes with the eventual/upward development of the young guys and smart adds. I don't think that comes with adding Kane and a D and a G, alone, next season.
If he's signing an extension, I'm jumping at the opportunity. - TheSabresTaco
These two don't have to be mutually exclusive.
Kane's an interesting debate. You're not getting him (et. al) to suddenly contend for the Atlantic Division/Eastern Conference/Stanley Cup next year. You would be getting him to make sure he's on your roster when you are ready to do so. By acquiring him in a trade (assuming he would agree to it), you're essentially trading for a year of exclusive negotiating rights. It's a gamble, but not an entirely unreasonable one, depending on the price. Yes, he's 33 years old, but if a 37-year old Jeff Carter can still be somewhat productive, I have to believe Kane's skillset still has a few decent years left in him.
He also checks the "leadership" box. They will eventually need guys on the roster that have won championships before. |

Stop picking on the guy at the party that deserves all the criticism for saying something foolish.
Pick on the guys that keep repeating the same foolish thing, over and over..... |

Definitely agree with this post 👍
Young 40 goal scorer or (2) old dudes
Who would you build (rebuild) around?
Of the 3, maybe they keep the captain and cat
Allowing pk88 to become available |

I see this is going to be an awulf joke. Like that super annoying guy at the party who everyone wants to STFU but he keeps saying the same joke, over and over and over again.
I think they should stand pat always, trade any older players (Over 25) for 1st rd picks and never try to acquire talent.
Quinn is gona come in next year and be better than McDavid anyways. - ImThatGuy
Every poster on here has their own version of this, let's not kid ourselves.
No one EVER, EVER, EVER said not to acquire talent. Kane is just the obvious one because he's from Buffalo, amirite?
But the questions remain.
Will he waive?
Will he sign an extension?
Does his douche-tastic personality fit or does he set this dressing room back? (after all, we just got rid of one of those).
Chicago isn't giving him away, so are you comfortable giving up what they'd want or is it smarter to wait a year when you can have him for free? |

hehateme and ImThatGuy want to make the playoffs NOW. So, you give Chicago whatever they want for Kane, so that they can attend a Party in the Plaza come next April. |

I don't care if they trade for McDavid, because if they don't get a goalie (or two), ain't no way Patrick Kane is getting us to any parties in any plaza, especially considering what they'd have to give up to acquire him, too. |

Oh 16 well Kane for 16-Portillo or Johnson-Weissbach
What for Toews, sorry we don't want him. |

My brain cells tell me that there are not a lot of options for a guy who is making 10 million a year, there are a hand full of teams that can take that contract on without subtracting good players in return.
Plus his home town being Buffalo surely does not hurt. We have an upcoming team and he really is a good fit for us. why is it so hard to believe that good players would actually want to play here? I remember when I said to sigh Taylor Hall and ppl laughed at me and guess what,. He signed in Buffalo.. Now it did not work but he was the best FA on the market and he chose to come to Buffalo. We alos traded for Skinner Kane, ROR these are all top performing players....

as opposed to what. another year without playoffs? so for you its Cup or bust? guess what, only one team wins it. I would rather be part of the teams that had a chance at it...

We all want to make the playoffs now. The task is acquiring talent that will be here for when the core of this team is good enough to get themselves into the playoffs, with the help of said acquisitions. The other part of that task is realizing your short and long term goals and not paying too much for guys who will be gone/ineffective when you actually need them.
This is a general comment and not inferring any slight to a single poster or player. |

Lekkerimaki/Savoie at 9 and Nazar at 16.
One can dream. - Pegullaville
Putting another sniper with Quinn would be *chef's kiss*
I think I'm higher on Savoie than most. Team needs dynamic scoring talent. If I had to bet, he's getting the Barzal treatment. |

Here is what I would try to do (dream scenario)
Sign N. Kadri
Trade for P. Kane
Trade for Carter Hart ( IMO he needs a change of scenery) |

If Chicago is dead set on moving on from Patrick Kane, even assuming the NTC, there aren't many teams with enough cap space to take him on next year. His best option is to allow a trade to whatever team can afford him, and then walk that summer. If you're trading for Patrick Kane, you're banking on your ability to convince him that this is a place he would want to be going forward. It's a year-long sales pitch.
I'm not even advocating for them to make this move. I'm just saying it's not the worst idea on the planet.

It was a lot worse of an idea in December than it is now. For sure.
