They were truly insufferable people, the two I'm referring to. I told them off pretty hard and they were flabbergasted that someone had the balls to stand up to them.

I was on here almost two full years before the ship started leaking telling all of you what a completely toxic environment it was at the Harbor Center and Arena and my experience with those two as well as some of their fellow peers and associates was a large part of how I knew what was going on in a place I honestly have never even stepped foot in.

It hasn't changed. Just the locker room, but that's the most important part really.

Buffalo is a weird town. It's not a merit based culture, it's completely based off of connections and schmoozing. It's sad how people climb all over each other to get to the few open positions in places like Harbor Center/Key Bank Center, Town Ballroom (don't even get me started on that place) and some of the other venues and establishments in the city.

It's not even nepotism. It's just a gross and toxic association of people who gate-keep the "culture" of Buffalo but when it boils down to it, the music scene is absolute garbage, the culture is 100% centered around drinking and the arts scene is just a bunch of suburban, middle-class jerk-offs who moved to the city and pretend to be bohemian.

They literally will terrorize and bully anyone original because they're so afraid of losing their associations and cliques.

Yeah, the game action was great too. I really enjoyed it.

Yeah, I’m sure. Seemed like a great game
I wasn’t trying to imply anything, just curious to me what some people are wanting when they go see a game

I remember him from the US-Canada outdoor game back in late 2017. He was really good in that too.

Swayman was on that team, too, but I'm not sure he ever dressed.

Back in my early "young professional days" (i.e. just out of college) in the late 2000s/early 2010s, I went to a lot of Sabres road games. If I remember correctly off the top of my head: Pittsburgh (old arena), Washington, MSG, Detroit, Toronto, Montreal, Nashville, Philadelphia, Florida, and Tampa Bay. I've also since been to a game in Pittsburgh's new arena and just recently in Raleigh, but those were attached to visits with friends and family.

I honestly felt that the Sabres gameday experience was behind everyone except maybe Florida, and that was probably because I was one of about 30 people in the stands. The gameday presentation/atmosphere for the Sabres just felt amateurish compared to the other arenas. When I go to a major sporting event, whether it's the NFL, NHL, NBA, or MLB, I want it to feel like it's a big deal to be there. I don't get that when I go to Sabres games. I do feel that when I go to Bills games at Highmark, though I haven't been to one there since 2019. In some arenas, it's easy. When you go to a game in a place like Toronto or MSG, those places are royalty. The ticket prices alone reflect that. We'll never get that in Buffalo. I realize that. I will also admit that familiarity might have a hand in this too, but every thing at Key Bank Center feels dull, unoriginal, and boring. It just gives off a minor league vibe rather than a major league one. I'm not sure what can be done to change it other than maybe build a new rink.

Sad denial, maybe others work harder, are more educated or less crazy?

Schmoozing....
Maybe work on schmoozing skills for your next interview

To be fair, Buffalo's "crony" reputation is no secret, locally or nationally. We as a city/community are really hesitant when it comes to influence from outside the area, for better or for worse.

To varying degrees every medium to large city is crony. I was literally told by a city official “we aren’t getting bids on that job company x is doing it he is my friend”. Damn I wish I recorded that.

You do realize that Murphy's Law pretty much guarantees that when that team finally gets over that hump, it will likely be against the Sabres.

And I do agree with that as well, but Beady's point, while dripping with bitterness, isn't all that wrong. At the same time, it's understandable too. If I have an "in", why would I give up my comfortable position for the sake of "the bigger picture"?

To be "fair", would someone be considered local from lockport?

The last job offer you received, was really beause your good at schmoozing.

Your years of education and experience has zero to do with being hired? Just nepotism

I currently work remotely for a company based out of Chicago so I'm not exactly the best example to use in this argument. And I had zero connections to the company when I interviewed.

Did you Schmooze yourself into your current job, being a local Indiananan?

Bidding for Jobs leaves the door open for intangibles.
Definitely who you know.....

🤔

When I was younger, sure, summer jobs were based on who you knew. My Engeneering department summer job was based on our neighbor running the show.

Hard work history
Solid resume
Solid education

Doesnt hurt to know someone, but I never left a job interview sniveling about schmoozing.

Just figured someone was more qualified.

We're not disregarding that there are absolutely situations in this city, this country, who you know matters more than what you know, right.

I believe in Murphy's Law, but I am also certain that this particular scenario would tear holes in our dimension.

Yes, and no. I've been in interviews where I knew someone else who had a connection with the decision makers, which at times made me wonder "Why did I bother?". That being said, the difference in qualifications wasn't that far off either so it's understandable. However, there are situations where better qualified people are passed over for connections. Hell, the Pegulas are even known for it.

is that why they sucked against the sabres this year? Saving those wins for when it matters?

Do you honestly think that this year's Sabres team would beat Toronto in a seven game series?

Woe is me, I'll write a long pity filled post about others not being better qualified, but poor me lost out to a friend of a friend.

Speaking in 100% absolutes is ridiculous
