Probably more than we were willing to pay. 1 year from UFA, in line for a massive raise, and will be in his 30s before that huge contract even starts. Great player but I don't see the fit. Probably why nothing got done.

You can guarantee Fitz was trying to package Zacha around the deadline. Canucks seem like a team in which he'd fit because team controlled and they have cap issues.

For sure, and I think it's something he's gonna continue to try to do over the summer too. Seems like a solid bet that Zacha isn't on the roster next season.

Pucks and Pitchforks has an article about trading the pick for M Tkachuk, who is an RFA in 2 years. Not sure why they would want to trade him, but i would make that trade in a heart beat. That guy has snarl, size and can score. And is only 24 yrs old. Make it happen Fitz

I mean if they’re willing to move him (frank) yeah

We have our other picks right? They’re all early in each round. The 2nd round pick must be worth something. We may still make a nice trade without moving 2nd overall.

Exactly! Some decent prospects/young players too that took a step this year that can be packaged. We're still going to add a top 6 forward, our 1st is just off the table now.

Worlds is gonna be fun.

-Slafkovsky is unreal at puck protection, holy. Still needs to work on his acceleration/first few steps a ton. One thing i noticed, and people are starting to bring up, is that the smaller ice surface seems to be greatly benefitting Slafs playstyle. He's really popped at the Olympics and so far 1 great game at the WCs all on NHL-sized ice, whereas in league play in the Liiga he struggled most of the season(which is the larger "european/international" ice). IF we draft him, I hope he's in Utica and not back in Finland next season.

-Hughes has reaaaally been driving play and generating chances *when* he actually gets a chance to get on the ice lol. Really needs to work on his 1v1 zone entry defense though, he got walked a few times.

So yes I am going 'there'. His name is so long, do we call him Kovi2?

Seriously, if we select him...will he be ready to join the big club next season or is he bound for Utica?

LOL

If we draft him i imagine he'll be given every opportunity to make the team out of camp because hes been playing pro already, and he can probably handle it physically, but he'll probably be back in Finland or down in Utica next season. Its best for his development and I personally would highly prefer him in the AHL so he can keep playing on NHL-sized ice though.

Imo Wright is the only player in this draft who should be right in the NHL next season, but you never know what'll happen after a full summer of training and how they look in camp/preseason.

I’m down with him or Cooley in the A. That would be fun.. he develops while Utica and their developing players add a top pick to make another playoff run. All good for everyone.

I’m still torn on who I want.
Who’s an NHL comparable (or 2 comparables if there’s not an exact guy) for these 2 players?

Yeah I mean I'm fine with either guy. Cooley will be in college though for a year, as he's committed to the University of Minnesota.

For comparisons, if they hit their ceiling there's a lot of comparisons of Slafkovsky to Rantanen and Cooley to Point/Aho. Some other comparisons for Slafkovsky is Puljujarvi and Jagr(purely in terms of play-style and using his body to protect the puck. Jagr himself said Slaf plays exactly like him). Another comparison for Cooley is Keller.

If I were picking second like you guys are I would take Logan Cooley. That's the player I'm hoping falls to 5. I know he won't.

Agree with you. If we're actually taking BPA then it's Cooley but most Devils fans know our GM has shown the tendency to draft for best fit/team need, so i'm fully expecting Slafkovsky to be the pick.

He also goes for a reach with a first round pick, we only have one this season so it will be a goalie at #2

Mukhamadullin is making his Comets debut tonight! Steps right into the top pair, replacing Walsh.

And the Comets immediately get scored on during his first shift lol

Mukhamadullin gets his first point! Primary assist on a power play goal, Holtz with the secondary assist as well.

Utica drops game 2 in OT 4-3. 1-1 series, down to a best-of-3, going to Rochester for the next 2 games.

Who could forget... him and White were either decent or terrible. Just like oh-no-duya. The best of times. Awful lol.

For a second I thought we were going to be cursed with Hextal calling game freaking 7, but thank the hockey gods she’s only behind the glass.

I've tried to remove Mike Mottau from my memory but he's always there haunting me.
