Well, they went further than I thought they would. Hard fought, but in the end shallow in some key areas.
Hope bergy is back for at least one more year. Otherwise this off season is gonna be interesting. - dothedougie
Here's the thing, they dont even have money to sign Bergy, with coyly at 5.5, Ulmark at 5, they are in cap hell. Fire sweeney, revamp the scouting department, maybe trade Pasta, as a team looking forward they are ok defensively, but the forwards are trash. |

If bergy wants to come back they will find a way to sign him. Maybe to a bonus laden contract. Or trade someone like coyle to clear up space. Not sure what they are gonna do. Kind of not looking forward to another off season of free agent misfires. Although they could re-sign haula, I would be down with that.
Hoping for changes to upper management, but not holding my breath. These guys love their "Business as usual" |

The assumption is Debrusk will be moved and they could move Smith and Nosek (neither have movement clauses) and that frees up nearly $9M. Lysell replaces Debrusk and any one of the P-Bruins could replace the other two. Move Gryz as well and you have another almost $4M. Unfortunately Foligno has a NMC (another of Sweeney's great moves) otherwise that would be another almost $4M. |

I’m good with all those moves. Lots of dead weight. |

Next year is Foligno's last so he might be a buyout candidate to save at least some cash. |

What are you hoping to get for our best goal scorer?
Trade Pasta might as well trade Marchand as well.

I wouldn’t trade Pasta. Only real dynamic scoring threat on the team outside of Marchand. Who is gonna score?? |

Pretty early for Lysell. Terrific junior player.
We shall see…
On a side note. Wth was wrong with Frederic. His play was really disappointing. A young physical player that didn’t play that way. That ineffectiveness of the 3rd line was probably the difference maker. |

I think the couple of times getting scratched recently took a bit of his aggressiveness.
As far as Lysell goes and being young, remember Pasta??? |

He wasn’t aggressive either in game 1 & 2 I didn’t think.
Oh for sure I hope Lysell is the next Pasta! I’m just cautiously optimistic. Many great junior players don’t pan out. |

They absolutely neutered Frederic. Pretty much just led to him playing scared and taking dumb penalties.

Why in the world would you be trading Pasta? Forwards are trash so you trade away your 25 year old point per game player? He’s your only dynamic player not named Marchand.

Are we ready for change yet, JJ? Probably not as you got your "playoff gates".
Neely and his group really need to be relieved of their duties. Today. If Bergeron goes, Don Sweeney is not the GM to orchestrate a rebuild and Neely is not the president to guide Hockey Ops into real and viable change that will compete with the rest of the division, and the Eastern conference in a serious matter.
Swayman
McAvoy
Pasta
Lindholm
This is what you build around. Because Sweeney has drafted soooooo (frank)ing poorly you have:
No Centers. None.
1 wing (Lysell) Maybe 2 (Lauko) But they're prospects and not yet proven
No viable defenders in the pipeline
No 1st round pick this year
You do have...
Ullmark
Coyle
Clifton
Everyone else on this roster should be up for grabs. Yes, that includes in Hall and Marchand(painful to even type that) as they have real trade value. Carlo and Gryzelyck could be an attractive option for some teams but they will underwhelm in both trade return and what they bring to the receiving team. Shipping both is addition by subtraction.
It has been a good run. But good doesn't win the cup. Needs to be better, period. This front office has had a 6 year run and proven to be average. That's not horrible but not great either. |

All of it. Just beautiful.
I am ready for this, but agree 100% that Neely, Sweeney and all of Sr. managment needs to be cleaned out. Wish the Jacobs family would also sell the team to someone else so we can have it all wiped clean.
Enough "retooling on the fly". Pick a new core, start rebuilding. Im ready for it.

Upper management needs to change period. It’s been an incomplete run, Don and Neely have struck out with a great core. With 3 of the best forwards in the game locked up at 75 cents on the dollar for a long stretch it’s a shame Don couldn’t take advantage and fill out the remaining roster better. He tried, and failed and needs to lose his job.
Just think 37,63,88 = 18 mil/season
Tor is paying Matthews, Marner, Tavares over 30 mil.
Terrified of where this team is at without #37 next season. A dark dark hole if that happens.

It is a shame what they couldn't do more to support the core. My guess is you wont see a line like that for 18mil as long as we have had them ever again.
Hope to see Bergy back, but that is mostly just because I have genuinely enjoyed watchhing him play for many years and just dont want to see him go. He has had one hell of a career. |

because if you're gonna blow it up, why keep him? Without moving a bunch of other crap they have zero cap space. who's gonna take Coyle at his salary and term. Its extreme, but the team needs a makeover.

He is still young enough to be considered a piece of the future core. Because Sweeney has depleted the farm and picks you have to move Hall and/or Marchand.

It takes two to tango...most of the players being bantered about here have at least some level of trade protection in their contracts with many having a full NMC. |

NMCs aren't iron clad and get waived all the time. It takes a competent GM to broker a deal this is good for both team and agreeable for the player. NMCs are sought after by players because uprooting your family on a constant basis sucks not to handcuff GMs and stymie rebuilds. |
