NHL officiating is one of the things keeping the league down. While I used to enjoy fighting when I was younger it really makes it seem like a third rate or worse clown league at times.

Spontaneous fighting is still good. But the, you have to fight because you made a clean hit, is dumb

A fine on both is 100% deserved. I haven't even seen that Guentzel one but I am trusting everyone that it was bad. I turned the game on a few minutes late when they loaded the penalty box up.

in trouba's defense, mark guentzel does have a face that screams "elbow goes here"

I'm fine with the reduction in fighting in the game, at least the dumbass staged fights, but some of the other stuff they've ramped up the calls on is terrible.

Proponents of the crackdown on stick penalties etc... would probably accuse me of wanting to go back to the clutch-and-grab era (which is the furthest thing from what I want) but when guys are getting called for a slash for getting their stick on an opponents stick it's absolutely pathetic. Or some of the hooking calls that get made simply because a defender's stick made it near the hands of the guy with the puck.

I don't think it was "bad" per se, but yeah Trouba was definitely leading with the elbow. Luckily Guentzel didn't get hurt

I think that is a better way to put it. If they aren't going to get a handle on that they may as well remove hitting from the game. I don't mind if a guy sees an egregious penalty causing an injury getting into a fight though.

That's a real Sophie's choice for me. I (frank)ing hate Cooper and his smug bumhole face but watching Toronto fans squirm is the best.

But I also have an alternative scenario. Tavares succeeding would really bother the Islanders fans so I am kind of leaning that way.

Definitely.

It's a hard game to call because of the speed. I can't stand the phantom calls either where the ref thinks he knows what happened but can't see through a guy and makes the wrong call.

If the Toronto Maple Leafs cannot make it to the second round of the playoffs, it’s through no fault of their own. Given just semi-competent officiating, from a billion-dollar league, and they’d already have made it there twice.

And there's nothing that isn't funny about him repeatedly dying on the hill of "renting a home is better than owning one"

I don't want to give him hits so I just took a close look at the homepage.

Why was he the Coyotes blogger if he was diehard Leafs guy?

I think the Leafs were covered here and he probably needed whatever meager crumbs Eklund paid him to write about a minor league team

Did he even write about the coyotes? I remember glancing at a blog here and there. He was one of those sad human beings who viewed every aspect of his life through politics.

Eh. You're name is picklerick, so I've got a least a little bit of respect for you. the R&M username outweighs the terrible taste in hockey teams, sometimes you can't help where you're raised or how badly your parents abuse you.
