Was waiting for that.
The fact Lane was given the job makes me think that Barry didn't want to coach past his last contract year. Maybe a stint with The Jets as coach and then they move him to the GM position?
Hope Lou checked with Barzal if he was ok with this? |

That was already dispelled by Friedman as a stupid rumor |

Nobody knows what happened and most likely nobody will ever know. That includes Friedman or whomever came up with the Barzal rumor. |

I think this is a good choice and hopefully a good fit. - ses111
I don't have any issue with it, but it seems odd to say you want a "new voice" and then hire a guy who's been Trotz's shadow for a long time. He seemed to be well sought-after across the league though, so he gets the benefit of the doubt from me. |

love the coaching move, i thought they played harder for him when he was acting HC and wondered if something was there, after they started the season like poop |

I wonder if it’s going to be the same system and structure as trotz for that reason or if he takes the team in another direction? I’m ok with this move I wanted Quennville but figured that wasn’t going to happen Lambert was my next hopeful choice. |

He does seem well sought-after. Will be interesting to see the makeup of the coaches. - ses111
If he can incorporate parts of Trotz's defensive-minded system with something that can allow the skill players a bit more freedom on the other side of the puck then maybe it'll work out well |

I think keeping pieces of that system/structure in place would be a good idea. The team is familiar with it and it works. But there's no doubt they need to improve in the scoring/PP department, so hopefully he infuses a bit of life there, along with Lou infusing some better talent up front and on the blueline |

He’ll most likely go about it that way I would think. Whatever he’s doing you know lameriello knows exactly what it is and approves and we all know what his teams historically looked like. |

They do and also the freedom to make plays without fear each mistake will mean a benching if you are under 30.

Looking forward to see what he does… |

Fiala would be a very good add, he's 25 and has a ton of skill.
I have my doubts that Forsberg plays anywhere but Nashville next season, I think they get something worked out there.
Someone like Mason Marchment or Niederreiter would be excellent middle-six additions as well and likely wouldn't break the bank. Burakovsky is another name that would make a lot of sense. I assume Calgary can't afford to re-sign both Gaudreau and Mangiapane, one of them would be great (Mangiapane is an RFA so that'd be a trade). I'd also be very interested in a whole bunch of current Rangers who will be UFA's, specifically Copp/Vatrano/Motte (in that order). |

OK then - eichiefs9
It seemed plausible at the time that Barry's dismissal may have been amicable. It was a tough year for Barry, losing his mother and all. His dismissal guaranteed him his salary while not having the Isles endure the negative PR of him just walking away. Lambert isthe right call. I wouldn't be surprised if Barry took the year off and then returned in a new role elsewhere. Glad it's over |

Dreger (I think) had mentioned that there was some word out there that Trotz may want to make the jump to a management role. It'll be interesting to see what he ends up doing, but it was definitely a tough year for him. I wouldn't be surprised if you were correct and he did take some time to sit back and be able to breathe. |

Will be interesting to see if the new building helps this offseason with FA's? Forsberg would be really nice but a very long shot along with Gaudreau. I'm thinking Wally might need to go for Fiala in a package? - ses111
Possible they'd want Wahlstrom. The 13th overall would certainly be going to them and they probably won't be able to add anyone with even somewhat-significant salary. Maybe they'd take Bellows if we tossed in someone like Salo. |
