I did not watch any of the Panther vs Capital playoff games.
But, I wonder if the Leafs have softened up the Bolts for an easier run by the Panthers? I thought the Leafs totally dominated play in the third period. It appeared to me the Bolts had nothing left in the tank and they were hanging on by a thread and hope at the end.
If Point is missing in the next round it is a huge hole in the Tampa line up.

That game took 5 years off my life. But, I had more confidence in that Lightning roster than I do this one. The Isles took the series the distance, but I was confident the Lightning would win. This year, no Gourde line and Vasi had looked ordinary. I was genuinely worried the Lightning would lose this series in 5 or 6 games. I'm still shocked they won it. - GalacticStone
Tampa had a depleted squad then lost Point in game 7. Leafs probably had the best opportunity over the last three seasons over any other team that faced the Lightning. |

If Point is hurt and Kucherov is dinged up, the Panther should win and if they don't well then we all know this is just one of those destiny moments. |

Can’t believe people saying…..well we played good…..Tampa is a good team. Crap. Year after year after year it’s the same, and now we’re satisfied with……we played good! We didn’t even show up in game four!! Then in game six couldn’t get it done, game seven couldn’t get it done! Bottom line, when it matters we can’t get it done……..ever! Would it be any different if we played Florida, Carolina, Boston…..I seriously doubt it! Unbelievable that anyone would be saying give them another chance! Dubas has contracts so messed up that we will be repeating this same crap every year. Taveres getting older and less effective at $10mil, we have one more year of Matthews before he moves into his last year of the contract and we start renegotiating with him and is he going to negotiate during his last year, and what’s he going to want, $15mil? Then we have Muzzin who is getting older and hurt more…….we need to sign a goalie for a lot more than Campbell is making now, Mrazek is sitting doing nothing for this team at near $4mil. We need to find and sign defensemen! And this is all going to be different next year!? Next year we are going to win? Sure, ok. |

44’s extension kicks in next yr. 7.5 also
5 guys @ 50 mil -
Soup UFA / Lilybust & Sandin RFA’s getting small raises…
This team is gonna have more than a few really young guys next year.
Just isn’t gonna be enough money to go around. Simple economics -
It doesn’t seem likely that they hit on all these low budget guys like they did this year.

We should probably look at building the team a but differently. - walshyleafsfan
get rid of nylander and matthews.
can't win with selfish players.
60 goals during the regular season don't matter if you are not a leader during playoffs.
keep marner and rielly and build around those two guys.
muzzin, giordano and puck watcher brodie should all be gone as well.
and just put woll in goal. |

Keefe's pre-game speech about 'details' was pathetic. As if they were going to play a pre-season game.
Shanahan, Dubas, Keefe all need to go.
Nylander and Matthews as well.
Bad apples that bring the team down. - MaximusAurelius
Now tell us why Putin is so great for a stable Europe.
Or maybe just disappear for another year. |

If you trade anybody it's Marner and his playoff diapers. Won't get the same return as Mathews but A lot more than Willie. And you still need 2 scoring lines. |

I just don't think he is strong enough for playoff hockey, I put Reilly in that boat also.
We all know about Willy, but like I said they still need 2 scoring lines.
Maybe trade all three for Nastier men with some talent. |

FFS. If one drunken comment burns a bridge built by a long history of informed and rational hockey discussion, then that's on you. I'm sorry you feel that way. I see a lot of insults tossed towards the Lightning in this forum and I don't take them personally. Heck, I agree with most of them.
Nick Paul did indeed own the Leafs last night. Although, I will admit that the refs won the last two games. That Holl pick was technically a penalty, but they never call that poop. That beauty Tavares goal should have counted. Your beef should be with the officials who presented this series to the Bolts on a silver platter.

There isnt, outside of cap space.
But cap space for who? Youre not replacing the 100pts.
Marner was good these playoffs, honestly the big 4 forwards played well most of the series.
The leafs had three series leads but couldn't get a death grip on it. Vasy finally showed up last night, but most of the series he wasnt very good.
The leafs showed some fight but still had some periods where they were invisible.
What can you do.
At least the oilers beat the kings.

Day after hot takes:
* I’ve always defended Kerfoot being clutch in the playoffs, time to move him now
* Campbell was pretty good, but not paying more than 5m per year
* Disappointed by Engvall and Mikheyev 😔
(did not elevate their game in series)
* Rielly needs to shoot the puck on PP
* Resign Giordano
* Trade Nylander, if it brings you a good dman and RW. He doesn’t match with JT.
(Nylander/Muzzin for Konecny/Provorov)
* We need more toughness in top 6 wingers
* Move Holl, sign Subban for cheap (big shot from the point) |

Yeah Marner was fine. I think if you're really looking to make a big move you listen on Tavares, just because he's not *quite* living up to that deal and is probably going to get worse in the near future, so sell if you can.
But overall there aren't a ton of moves to be made, cap is what it is at this point.
