That's the player you're paying. Pre and post injury, he was 4-5M good. He showed he could improve in 5v5, which I for one definitely had my doubts. Maybe a 3x5M, low risk, good reward. - TheSabresTaco
This is where I'm at with him...largely due to his age, being 27 in 2 months time.
3 years gets you through the last of his best years remaining. 30 isn't old by any means, but with the assumed full pipeline developing over that time, the organization should have replacements ready.
I've been Olo's biggest critic due to his weak EV play...but he has improved there really well. He also can play on lines 1 - 3, and that is valuable. |

There may be some truth to the above?
That is the most humorous comment I've read on this site in quite some time ๐๐๐

So Pitt offered malkin and letang 3 year 15 million total contracts. Rejected. Offer both 2 year 22 million. Get them here for two years to start winning when we have the cap. They are gone when we need to pay our players and now they will have playoff experience. And we will have all our assets intact |

The Karmanos effect.
Then sign Fleury for the same contract. |

Olofsson's most likely projected contract is 4x4.95. He plays a full season healthy, seems like a fair offer. My only question is, can or should he be used for a different type of asset? - TheSabresTaco
So 5 x 5 as predicted for months isnt far off....
Where's lunion and 3 x 3 ๐
So we trade olo for a power forward with some size and anger issues.
So we trade olo for a gritty tough vet on defense to fit in ahead of or behind #4 joker.
Where do we find the new veteran 20 goal 1st liner? |

Like I said, it's the nature of the roster. You're not going to just massively overpay a couple guys to prove you can spend money.
There will probably be a Boychuk. It still doesn't mean that objective one is to be cheap. The roster this and next year is just built with ELCs. If the right player comes along, I hardly doubt they'll not sign them because of contract demands. I just don't buy it and have seen no proof of it.
And that begins with the 20-21 roster budget. - TheSabresTaco
I've got them at roughly $9M under the cap floor using the Evolving Hockey contract projections for their RFA's and still needing to sign a goaltender, if UPL is on the NHL roster, which is expected. |

With suggestions of signing Malkin and others like Fiala, Fosberg, etc...
Is this suggesting that the Sabres need another top line?
I'm in that camp myself, just wondering if others really see it the same way, or is this just wanting a big name player added? |

Savoie and Yurov would be a strong top 2 picks for the Sabres. - kingcong39
I think we should have learned after the 2020 draft that predicting them to draft a certain player, at least outside the top 2 or 3, is almost impossible, especially when you have an analytics department involved. You have no idea what their real thought process is. You can like or dislike the pick, but I don't think anyone would have predicted the Sabres to draft Quinn while Rossi and even Perfetti were still available. |

That's the patience issue.... KA has more patience than all the posters combined.
Guys will grow into the 2nd line, hopefully this season.
Why would malkin want to come to buffalo ๐ค |

I am fine with Letang but I don't have confidence that Malkin would be motivated to play well here even if he did come.

Do you think Savoie gets past CBus and Detroit, both who are looking for a C?
Those last couple of wins at the end of the season to beat Ottawa and Detroit in the standings could be very impactful.
I'd suggest that if Savoie is their desired target, they would need to move ahead of CBus.
Trades at the top of the NHL draft don't happen, so I'd say that ship has sailed.
You may get your wish on Nazar...unless both go that early |

Wouldn't signing letang stunt the growth of our young defenseman core?
Where does he fit in?
I'm kinda still about adding a 5th bully d, and letting the best young nhl defense learn together.

So a HOF player is just going to trash his reputation the last few years of his great career just because? |

Why would malkin want to come to buffalo ๐ค - Boss34
The only way he would come here is on a 1-year deal, basically to wait out a season where certain other teams can clear salary. Even that scenario has about a 5% chance of happening, if that. I'm not convinced he's done in Pittsburgh.

From the blog:
Iโm not saying he canโt get better, he can get better, but heโs going to get better when you get better players around him, not because heโs going to get older. |

I am super high on Miroshnichenko at Florida pick. What a home run 1st round that would be.

The notion of "stunting" young players growth needs a reality check. You don't stunt a player's growth by bringing in other good players. You stunt their growth by bringing in so-called "veterans" who aren't actually very good. |
