Guys I’ve been Kyle Dubas all along - Canada Cup
I don’t believe you, as I’ve heard Dubas is quietly a Poilievre guy…
Not joking. |

I'll give you guys credit. You can roll out the excuses with the best of them (ie. Dubas and Shanahan). The koolaid is strong with this group. - fifty__missions
I’m not sure it excuses in my opinion.
The fact is - In Game 6 when the Leafs could close out, they were doing a hell of a job. They were (in the 3rd) limiting dangerous scoring chances, lulling the game down, clogging the middle and neutral well. Campbell looked calm and they were still playing with pace.
The bad high stick call came where it certainly looked like it hit Foote on the shoulder then the Kerfoot call where it’s dumb he had his stick up like that but Hedman did in fact guid Kerfoots stick up and into his own face.
The difference in that game wasn’t a choke or a no show - it literally was the 5on3 with under 7mins or close to it left in the game.
When it came to OT - when you give Tbay a back to back Cup team the moment like that they capitalized on the first chance they got. Vasi made real good stops earlier in OT and then there was a bad play that cost the goal. That happens.
Game 7 was a unreal game by Vasi and a super tight - could go either way game against one of the other best teams in the NHL.
I agree the result was the same. Round 1 loss and ultimately that’s what matters. But the narrative of them not showing up is not completely accurate. |

Although your post is both well written and well thought out, all you're accomplishing is that there's just another statement of the same coming back...

If the Nylander to the Nucks smoke turns into fire, that could be considered a big change. Sends a message at the very least. |

Why change anything? This is the greatest season the Leafs have ever had!

Blew the lead / gave up the lead when a brutal call eventually led to a 5 on 3. Same thing right.
"The difference in the first round could be measured by a sliver. The Leafs are getting questioned for not having a killer instinct, especially when they held a 3-2 series lead after five games, but consider Tampa’s experience. That it turns out that the mettle that comes from winning back-to-back Cups outweighs that which comes from losing in the first round for several seasons in a row shouldn’t surprise anyone. One is not like the other.
We wonder — where was Tampa’s killer instinct in 2019, when it won the Presidents’ Trophy handily but then was swept in the first round by the Columbus Blue Jackets? Jon Cooper remained the coach and the nucleus of players did not change. Tampa hasn’t lost a playoff round since." - joel878
But did they lose 6 first rounds in a row, no they learned from the first first round knock out. |

Oh. How many times did the leafs finish first and get swept by the worst team in the playoffs? Off chance that's the aspect Tampa learned from? Or is the happy middle ground perhaps that they just grew and evolved as a group. 🤔 |

The same on terms of points or players/team core?
If it’s the players/team/core thing - I personally feel like one of the 4 forwards needs to be moved. It’s clearly not the best 200 foot player in the game (my opinion) in Matthews so it’s one of 88 16 91.
91 is a classy kid so honestly he probably would waive for a select number of teams of asked. I see him as an honourable old school type kid where he’d think he wouldn’t want to be somewhere he’s not wanted. That’s said I don’t think they will ask. But I’d move him to wing. In middle for draws.
16 vs 88 - Marner better player with bigger tag. Gets the best return hands down. If you want to address multiple areas of team you do that. It’s sucks cause he’s a talented guy but you need to give to get and 3 players spread through top 6 bottom 6 and mid pair d is better than just one 16.
I like Kerfoot a lot but he’s a good contract and super utility type guy a lot of teams like. I think Leafs can move for a more physical but still skilled guy. Like Crouse or Koneckny or someone similar. Cheaper but brings different edge.

I think they go. Most importantly as I am of the school of thought that you build goalie and out - search everywhere and tempt with 16 or 88 to get that legit starter. The net needs to be solidified. Campbell will not get it done in my mind.

Most of the rumors probably stem from the success the Nucks had being led by 2 wimpy Swedes. They are hoping a Nylander Peterson duo can lead them to past glory.

I think if you want to improve it has to be through Campbell. There's sweet (frank) all in FA and there's not exactly quality trade candidates out there even if you did want to give up the assets.
Georgiev? The Rangers arent doing the leafs a favour and his season wasn't the most exciting anyways. Blackwood? Gross. Desmith? Varlamov/Sorokin? Vanacek/Samsonov? Meh. |

Ya man I get it.
I do think there may be an improvement. I mean I really do think Gio will com back and Lily is ready to get goin full time. I like the d. An addition on the mid pair is all that’s needed with a better goalie than Campbell. Some of the ones that may or may not be available (we would truly never truly really know o less they are FA)
Gibson
Kuemper or Francouz
Georgiev (that would be my pick)
Varlamov
And a couple guys on your list as meh as they are - still better than Campbell to me.

What would Tanner do? - GalacticStone
This is, of course, the only question that matters.
My guess is that Tanner believes the Leafs did, in fact, win the series with Tampa (and the cup). If you disagree, you are literally the dumbest person on the planet. |

Gibson is gross. His contract is no bueno for a guy who's put up numbers as awful as his, and trust me... They are reliably awful. I don't buy the team argument, the ducks just may have played better defensive hockey than Campbell has had in front of him in Toronto. There are a lot of worse goalies on bad teams putting up better numbers... Reliably. Fitting his cap hit for a goalie that bad would be a straight up killer.
Kuemper, well if Colorado can't cash or come close to it with him, I'm not sure why we would.
Varlamov hasn't proven anything imo.
I don't hate Georgiev, I just don't see a path to acquiring him without overpaying out the ass and I don't see how he puts us further ahead than Campbell. If anything, he'd be nothing but a dice roll and a prayer that he's better than Campbell. At that point, you'd be better off saving the assets and trying to roll the dice with one of the subpar free agent goalies.
I don't think Campbell is going to steal anyone a cup, but I don't see anyone out there anywhere who raises the odds in that category. |
