Dubas should get a statue if he can find takers for Mrazek and Kerfoot, as both free up 7.3M, and they're easy to replace. |

…so the avs just re-signed him to a new contract about a month or two ago to continue being their bonafide 1a/2 goalie and he’s an option for the Leafs how exactly? |

GMs around the league should be fortunate enough to get a call from Dubas...the call alone would be enough to make a deal. |

i mean….sakic would probably take Nylander for him, depending on how contract negotiations with Nishushkin, (potentially) Manson, and (probably not) Kadri will go… |

Leafs don't need a goalie. The last 48hrs has proven how the masses will eat up whatever narrative the media feeds them.
The Leafs need a horse on the backend....not a former horse being put out to pasture...an actual horse. Been the same glaring issue for 3+ years running. |

Edmonton probably... Calgary probably not.
Don't forget, the Leafs just lost 2-1 to Nick Paul. |

Ya man. I know they signed him. Every player is signed to contracts. Then there are FA and UFA. So I get the contract thing.
Unless there is a rule wherein GMs will not trade a player that is under contract then everyone is technically available.
Also, GMs sign players to extensions, season plays out, playoff too - depending on result, injuries, org changes etc., re evaluations happen. They always do.
By that way of thinking, if say Dubas signed a goalie to an extension to be a 1a 1b like a mrazek let’s just say for fun - there is no way they would trade him if the right offer came through?
Every player is available. |

while the situations are vastly different (leafs having issues w/ round 1 vs. the narrative of avs having issues w/ round 2, which is just outright stupid when put into the context that three of those four years the avs for one reason or another had no expectation to make to conference finals- it was really only last season against vegas that was an enormous disappointment), imo the leafs are nowhere near as far from going deep as the media / some fans make them out to be.
run it back without changing the core, just the pieces around them and good things will eventually happen. i can’t think of too many teams in the past 20 years who’ve won the cup without at least a little heartbreak before it. |

That’s an odd take. I’m sure they’d listen to see who he was offering but I’m not sure they’d consider themselves fortunate though. But probably intrigued given the roster and the situation after a 1st rd exit.
Leafs desperately need a goalie. They need a mid pairing man not necessarily a #1 Dman. |

I don't think they're far off...they're one big roster move away...and a few smaller ones...
This management team has refused to fix the primary issue because it's frankly safer to stand pat. |

I’m assuming those are the #1 dmen or pairings on last cup winners?
Tenders
Tbay - Vasi
Blues - Binnington
Caps - Holtby
Pens - Murray or Fleury
Hawks - Crawford
Kings - Quick
Bruins - Rask
Wings - Hasek or Ozzy
Ducks - Giguere
Vezina winners those seasons or nominated. They are all legit nhl starters. Those are some good d you listed no doubt - but I’d rather have a solid 3 pair and a goalie to one of the ones listed calibre vs a ‘stud’ as people like to say as a #1 dman
Campbell was drafted a long time ago and has never been a #1 starter ever. He’s mentally frail and way too up and down. He cannot hold the net on his own. At the very best he can be part of a 1a 1b set up. Just my opinion based on his career play. |

I'm not sure I agree with your assessment of Campbell. But let's say I play... Francouz or Georgiev (who have also never proven anything) are the solution? And you'd need to give up trade assets to get them? Pass IMO.
I think the importance of a true #1D is a consistent ingredient to success, and not necessarily true for goalies - you don't need goalies to win games for you...you just need them to not lose them (e.g., some of the goalies you listed were protected by the teams they were on and systems they played...and when those rosters either changed or they moved on to other teams their numbers took material hits)

1. What’s Campbell proved? Other than not being capable of being a full time starter?
2. The list you posted creates success as does mine. Cups are won by well rounded teams. Net out. Not just a big name man. Goalies play 60mins. If I had a chance to choose between Vasi, Shesterkin, etc., or one stud dman I’m picking the goalie all day.
3. I can argue the d you listed were protected by the goalie and their partners and the forwards and overall team commitment to defensive responsibility.
Bottom line is really both are good.
#1 dman = good
#1 goalie = good
Campbell = Backup |

Remember a few years ago when some folks were pounding the table saying Kadri had to go. Others were saying no, no, no!
Perhaps we are at the same point with Nylander. I understand he is an entirely different type of player than Kadri. But, the lesson remains the same.
Nylander is on an exceptionally good, team friendly contract. He is one of the few elite players that can be squeezed into the salary cap of most teams (including the Leafs).
Nylander is the kind of player that a Carolina team (for example) would be quick to jump on. If that happened, I think it would be only a few months later that Leaf fans would be asking one another...why did we trade this guy? |

And your solution to this is to acquire another career backup that's never proven capable of being a full time starter? Not only would that be a lateral to what the Leafs have today, you'd be parting way with assets at other positions to do it.
Also - none of the D that I listed were protected by their goalies. On the flipside, Binnington is barely even NHL calibar without Pietrangelo playing 25-30min a night. |
