Now there's another guy who's star has dimmed significantly in the last year.

Especially considering Tatar pretty much produced just as much as Pacioretty despite being a throw in.

- Scabeh

It was a very good trade for MTL. Tatar even played pretty good for MTL.

One that I don't think a team would like to re create.

Which is why I think a lesser form is fair.

13 mins a game and 15 goals? The arbitrator could (frank) us on this one.
- Santo_44

"Engvall is likely going to have more leverage given his point production this season, but one thing working in the Leafs’ favour is he really has only been more than a depth player for one season. And even in his breakout year, he was only playing 13 minutes a night.

As a 26-year-old with just 168 games of NHL experience and 62 career points, Engvall’s comparables are players like Zach Aston-Reese, Josh Leivo and Markus Granlund, who all signed their deals for around 2 percent of the cap. That would be a $1.65 million cap hit for Engvall, which sounds about right."

I hope so. That would help the cap out a bunch.

I think he has more to give.

The wjc being in August is going to help a lot of prospects make their respected teams I think.

But how are you going to get a top 6 forward or two and a goalie with so little cap available....if the top 4 arent being touched? I get Dubas lucked out with Buntin, but that wont happen every year.
I know some cap could be created by moving out Kerfoot, Mrazek, and holl. But who becomes Kerfoots replacement that can do what he has been able to do?

- Fakepartofme

The 4 I listed are almost $15M, less if $ is retained moving Mrazek. If Bunting stays on the top six, you’re essentially replacing Kerfoot as a top six. Kerfoot will also bring back assets.

I’m not trying to set out a plan but there is $ to do stuff and there are a variety of approaches and decision points.

Move Holl? If Lilli is ready, go for it
What’s the best way to Mrazek off the books - buyout vs trade
Are they prepared to move Muzzin?
Do they move Kerfoot, if so just for space or for a useful player back?

Anyway, there are options worth the value of a core piece that they could move. And guess what, moving a core piece creates much bigger holes than Kerfoot

I just read an article in the Athletic that put him at 1.65 million per. Which isn't a back breaker if that's where it turns out to fall but is also over 2 Colin Blackwells if you play your cards right. 🤷🏻‍♂️

Isnt blackwell an ufa/rfa as well?

Marner did step up these playoffs, but wasnt great every game.....but neither was Matthews.
Both AM and MM didnt really show up game 7.
Leafs were the only home team to lose their game 7 that weekend and I believe the big boys on Edm and Cal both had some big plays (goals) in their game 7's.

They need 2 top six wingers with some jam, Mathews and Taveras can't be the only ones on each line with man strength.

He is, was just an example of what can be done with that kind of money if you're looking in the right places.

With his injuries and his age, I'm fine with letting him play a ton of minutes for the Marlies if he can't crack our top 6. It's a bit of a longshot, but he did surprise out of camp and was rewarded that 10-game stint in his first year if I recall correctly.

Anderson's ready for a long look though, and he has some size and jam to his game that would fit nicely on the 4th line to start.

Curtis Douglas has me drooling. For some reason I had him pegged as a Gauthier clone, but after watching him just pound a guy into the ground like a tent peg...

I thought he was dealing with a couple of issues which one of them was a groin issue.

Okay, but I simply meant that he wasn't injured enough to be using that as an excuse to become invisible or he wouldn't be playing. He's not big enough or tough enough And if Mathews is playing with Marner all the time they need big enough and tough enough on that wing.
Mathews can't be the only guy with man strength.

They did have that player - Ritchie but it didn't work out.

Flip side - Leafs are the only team to score a goal in a deciding game against Vasi in the past 5 years. Seems like 5 years worth of stars didn't really show up in game 7 except Reilly.

To me the end result of the game (and series as a result) is a combination of those 2 things with arguably a sprinkle of a called off goal.

- Cush29

Do any of these stars that previously didnt show up in these game 7's make 10 + million?
Also, I think Vasi is 2-2 in game 7's in his career. Wash scored 3 goals on him in 2018. He's only played three game 7's in the past 5 years it appears. So even looking at it from the flip side doesnt help much (unless my stats are incorrect)

The called off goal was bs, but thats just my opinion (I was drinking by the fire watching the game from an ipad while chatting, so who knows). However, it occurred somewhat early in the game, the leafs had plenty of time to do something. They didnt.

On to the Jays, the off season and summer!

He has his flaws like any non star.

But he does a lot of things right, I think he is a player that fits on any team.

He could slide into a 2C spot, 3C spot, or any LW spot.

He also has a 750K salary this season. Which quite a few owners would love.

If he hits the market he is a hot commodity. And next offseason he likely gets 4.5M.

- Santo_44

I like Kerfoot, I really do.. I just think he doesn't have a role on this team.. I don't think he''s strong enough to play 3C and I don't think he's skilled enough to play on the top 2 lines.. To me, he doesn't have a defined role. At 3.5M per, can't have a tweener..

But he's done exactly that.
He's good at 3c and has been good at filling in on the 2nd line when needed. That is his role pretty much, no?
