I found the ESPN/TNT commentary very bland and boring, making the game less enjoyable to watch that's not good to get new eyes on the sport south of the border. Watch Sportsnet and you'll see the difference.

On a more serious note;

3 more violent carjackings at gunpoint in Toronto last night in a span of 2 hours and 1 already today..Buddy had an armed home invasion in his condo downtown and his Lambo stolen as a result....Residents are terrified to even go to the grocery store.

Canada's not a real country, there's no rule of law. Clown world Canada. At least we care about Ukraine I guess, right??

There is an easy solution here:

It a hybrid between how it was before and how it is now. If the coach challenges and loses, they lose their time out (this is only one per team, per game). If they have already lost/used their time out, then they get a penalty. Essentially every team gets a risk free challenge and is penalized for delay for any other wrong challenges.

Is it too late to check if Brett Hull's foot was in the crease?

I have no problem with this rule. If you want to delay the game you better have a good reason for it.
- Aliaksandrhn

Aren't goals kind of important to the game?

What the heck do you consider a "good reason" if not a questionable goal?

I say go back to the day a ref's call was final. This review crap has made the games harder to watch in every sport. They had reviews back when Buffalo lost to the Brett Hull illegal goal. They had reviews when the Finish ladies team lost to the USA in a gold medal game and should have won. The review portion in that game was the biggest joke of all.
Mistakes happen so let the refs call the game and live by their calls.

Funny, I remember watching a blues game way back in the day when we had Halak. Made a great glove save, but it was obviously caught while inside the net, even though you couldn't "see" the puck through the glove, but it was obvious. During the intermission, the refs came to their locker room and told them that it is being changed to a good goal. I've also seen a few times when play continues after a goal and the horn goes off after Toronto saw it was an obvious goal and not just seconds later. And not all were late goals. Halak's was in the first period I think.

So how come Toronto was able to stop the game themselves, and a team wants to look at it again BEFORE play starts up again, and will get penalized if wrong. And is easier for fans to understand what's going on. I know this was awhile ago and things are different. But if anything, when Toronto does it people are confused more than checking it in the first place. Of course you have to regulate it because as most have said, everything would be challenged, or at least more often. Not sure of that solution though.

I don't think you can compare it to other sports too much, it's different because hockey is faster, and a lot of bodies in a smaller space. Plus, the NFL feels like it has more commercials than actual plays in the game lol. Sorry for the novel, had to let it out lol.

"The calls I received from casual fans said, "The NFL checks every TD in the fourth quarters if games, and every TD in the playoffs. Why would the NHL be so afraid of looking bad that they threaten teams to challenge them?"

Do you really expect the majority of casual NFL fans to understand hockey in its simplest terms, much less understand or appreciate the flow of the game? It's out of their league.

NFL fans are used to their games taking 6 or 50 hours to complete for that glorious 15 minutes of play, so they couldn't care less about an additional 30 or so minutes for an NHL game that's already been slowed down too much.

Besides, NFL fans are generally asleep on the couch.

Leave the challenge where it is. Good deterrent.

TNT is fine.

ESPN is hot garbage. Their audio is a step ahead of the video and anyone trotting Leah Hextall out there to call games deserves to lose their job.

- eichiefs9

If Leah is not calling the games, any suggestions about what they have her do? Maybe a sideline reporter.

More amateur than having a female play by play announcer covering National games who has zero business in the industry and no talent but has a job because she’s related to Ron Hextall?

Ek took the words out of my mouth. I basically said a summary of this blog on the devils blog last week. It’s a beyond stupid and degenerate rule. Like the refs never get a call wrong.. so the coach, from his limited vantage point, thinks it’s more likely than not a call is wrong.. from the real-time vantage point of the refs. Heaven forbid we review it or the refs are wrong.. cuz they never get a call wrong or miss an obvious penalty (da fuq with Peterson’s helmet getting thrown off??). And heaven forbid the coach is wrong on the challenge.. we have to penalize him and take a chance on getting scored on, losing a game, losing a series, affecting the franchise and everyone’s pockets... all cuz the coach decided to question a questionable call. It’s insane and egregious.
What about just giving teams 1 challenge per game... so you’re not challenging every call, but have to use it wisely. If you lose the faceoff is in your end.. how bout that. Being penalized makes no sense.

You put sensors under the ice for the goal line, offside line, in skates and in the puck. Now you can very quickly monitor close calls, every play in near realtime. No more questionable calls. Its all precise and perfect.

"LITTLE" Gary Bettman is so afraid his marketing campaign will go down the toliet because the REF'S In the NATIONAL GARBAGE LEAGUE, STINK!! They don't know how to call the same type of penalty TWICE IN A ROW! All GOALIE INTERFERENCE should be reviewed automatically, WITHOUT A PENALTY ATTACHED! I GUESS THAT "LITTLE" Gary Bettman wants another Todd Bertuzzi being done to a goalie! I am a member of the GOALTENDERS UNION, AND IT'S TIME TO STRIKE AGAINST "LITTLE" Gary Bettman!! By the way it happened in the Blues-Av's game two against Binnington!!!

The challenge penalty should only be for failed offside challenges. And make it 4 minutes so it doesn't happen unless it's obvious.

How about the next one risks a penalty if the first one is incorrect. No penalty until one is incorrect.

I'd be good with that. Let's just get them right.
