Leafs lost this series because they faced more consistent defence and goaltending. Tampa defence nullified the Leaf power play, and when the leafs pressed in game six and game seven, Vasilevsky was there…buying time for Holl to miss his assignment in OT game six, and Nick Paul (3rd line deadline pickup) to dance Brodie to the slot in game seven and Campbell didn’t bail him out. In a game of inches, Tampa was better. Not sure major surgery to the Leafs would provide a different result.

Well, Leafs did outscore them in the series and the Tampa defence were being beaten. They adjusted by clogging up the middle and blocking shots like crazy. Toronto controlled possession and shot attempts. Came down to one or two mistake, breaks and calls.

In 2016, Sidney Crosby won the Conn Smythe with 6 goals/19 points in 24 games.

Connor McDavid currently has 6 goals/20 points in 9 games.

Wow.
And i thought 9pts in 7 games for matthews was good.

Tampa is the template in how to build a championship roster:
#1 Goalie
#1 Defenceman
#1 Center

Get it done Dubas. Otherwise, the myth of Sisyphus will continue in Toronto. It's a tough job for a guy who has fallen in love with his players "for better or for worse".

Kads just cannot help himself.. singlehandedly wrecked Blues postseason... Husso just ain't gonna do it.. Jordan was in a zone.

It was a sequence that led to Binnington throwing a water bottle at Kadri after the game, according to The Athletic’s Peter Baugh.

Toronto has 2 of the 3 and in reality they played a good series against Tampa. Can’t see any big changes coming from that management team due to cap mostly, with a bit of arrogance mixed in.
Campbell has most likely priced himself out of the market and with Smith’s retirement I see him most likely in Edmonton at 5.5 x 5.
Dubas believes in Mrazek and I think he’s your opening night starter. He can tinker at backup with cheaper guys like Pat Standd or Runnit Bach.
It’s a good roster. Be real fans and believe in it.

Dubas never brought Mrazek in to be the starter

Islanders have a 4 million back up or a 5 million dollar back up, depends on how you view them.

It's not impossible. I believe Allen was also a 4.3 million back up for the Canadiens and Edmonton currently has a 4.5 million dollar back up.

It was a kooky market. Mrazek was at most to compete with Jack but he certainly wasn’t coming in as clear starter

I agree with 2 of 3, you don't need a top 5 or 10 goalie to win a ship anymore. #1 D that can play 25-30min a night and shut down opponents best players is the key IMO. We need a Hedman-type, single man breakout machine.

I mean, Canadiens were in the finals a year ago and Edmonton is currently in the second round. Leafs made the playoffs too with their "kooky" overpaid back up. I don't see how it's an issue. I think the bigger thing to look for is how much do you spend on goaltending in total. Canadiens got to the finals with 14 million in tenders and both teams in Florida are not far off from that.

Yes, everyone hails the next Vana-Toskala since the Husso-Bernier failed. Plenty of back ups have been snagged by Toronto to be starters and they failed miserably. I don't put stock into just someone who's had a good run anymore. Driedger in Seattle is another one.

Really?! I’d be begging and pleading for a goalie if we’re a leaves fan. It was the difference in very tight series. Name a young goalie who might be a gamer, they should be after him. Hart, knight, Husso or Binnington(if one is available).

Or Ekblad. A high scoring team with a guy like Ekblad on the blue line should have no trouble with Tampa

Binnington isn't much younger than Campbell and makes 6 million a year for the next 5 years.
Husso is doing is first relevant thing at 27 and it is going bad now.
Hart has been dog poop for years.
Florida is not trading Knight, also he's 21. Can't expect a 21 year old to carry you to a cup.

Love it or hate it, there's no better/more proven option available to the leafs then Campbell, if Dubas somehow were to prove that wrong the assets it would take would make us all want to puke, because it's not through free agency.
