Look at his stats.
He was one the best pickups at the deadline - Fakepartofme
And yet one of the worst and overpaid picks up in Brandan Hagel has 0's across the board in 3 games against Florida.

What am I missing here? Isn’t he still a 3 mill guy?
I know he is from TO, but something about this deal is off unless he is not as good as many of us think. - Joe Nardone

He sees the potential for a cup playing at home, and that's more important to him than money. |

Man, Mike Smith is channeling his inner Dwayne Roloson. Hopefully he doesn't get run over by Cody Ceci. |

The endorsements already raining in for this guy
(wild guess) - Aaron_85
He’s made $61M in his career but no one makes calzone like his Nona. |

He's also 39(?) years old. His value on the market is probably not huge. He could have had a shortlist of teams, and the others weren't interested. More likely, he likes the team and just wanted to play a couple years close to home to finish out the career.
I also wonder if guys like him and Spezza sign these contracts looking at post-retirement opportunities. |

It makes sense. Not just potential endorsements, but also I could easily see a guy like Spezza transitioning into an office job with the Leafs. |

TML are proud to announce Jason Spezza’s continued dedication to the organization in him taking on his new full time role as the clubs new “Intermission motivational speaker” for the upcoming season.
He will be at every single game, traveling with the team and play a key role in the team’s drive towards success in the 2022-2023 campaign.

I'd love to see a short documentary on the many, many inspirational speeches that have been made in sports intermissions, after which the team went out and continued to get blown apart. |

If he had shopped himself around, he probably could have made $2 or 3M. He’s made $61M in his career and if he’s invested well the money is pretty irrelevant and being here playing on a team that has a shot means more. Taking a discount gives them a bit more of a shot, |

It's so Leafy that the Leafs have actually outscored their opponents in the last two series and lost. Or that they've won 21 playoff games without winning a series. But, that's just why next season will be all the more enjoyable. |

How much does Marchment cost?
Does he take a longer term deal at a cheaper cap hit because of his 1 only good season? Or a show me 3-4M deal?
He’s one of those contracts that I have no idea.
