I hear all the Gibson hate and I understand why, when you look at the stats from the last 3 seasons.

On the flip side he is as talented as any goalie in the league and is in his prime at 28.

6.4M for another 5 seasons? Too many are brining the negative out of that contract but cap is projected to go up 1m each year for a few seasons and then when there escrow debt is paid off we should see a significant bump. Right when AM and Marner contracts are up.

Even if he is only a top 10 goalie in the league, 6.4M is going to be a good number in the middle to back half of his contract, which would be pretty massive to keep AM and Marner around.

I see both sides to the argument but I just think not enough are seeing the positives of getting him, for any team.

I've always liked him, so I'm hoping there's a chance he comes back to the Leafs.

3-5 year deal at 3.5-4M?

You'd think his agent will be telling him to sign 1-2 years so he can maybe get a huge contract in a year or 2 but the security is nice too.

How much does Marchment cost?

Does he take a longer term deal at a cheaper cap hit because of his 1 only good season? Or a show me 3-4M deal?

He’s one of those contracts that I have no idea.

- Santo_44

He is 27 years old with 91 regular season games under his belt. He likely is looking to cash in like Mickey is. Wouldn't be surprised if he signed for 3 or 4 million over 4 or 5 years or thats what he's asking.

I’m surprised the florida player didn’t get a high sticking penalty. You gotta be in control of your stick at all times even if your about to break your neck.

I know I'm biased in my opinion, since I've really liked him from his Marlies days, but I'd do it.

He's in the same boat as Bunting; had a late ass start to his career. I can see him getting a bit better still. At the very least be as good as he was this past season.

He’s 27 years old and has never made any money. You’d think he’d want some security

You can go 2 different ways.

Mikhyev signed 1.65m for 2 years after his 50 point pace 1st season.

Not sure where marchment is at but Mikheyev has 60 more games than him.

Man, who's that goalie playing for Florida. Oh that's right Campbell is better then him it appears.

If that is the case I think a team has a potential at a bargain contract.

He could be a nice deal for a team. I think there is a fit but have to see what else Dubas does.

If you can get him around Kerfoot cap hit(probably a bit higher) and replace him you are pretty happy.

I like Kerfoot alright but I'd gladly make that trade off.

If the Leafs can get Muzzin to lift his no-trade clause, too, there'd be plenty of CAP space to do something nice.

Don't think that's happening this season

Next season for sure though, as long as Sandin and Lil keep progressing.

Probably not, you're right, but they kinda need it to happen. Sandin and Liljegren need to play every game next season. And there's too many guys on the LD.

I dont think the leafs care about "needing" them in every game.

Reason being is you can't really develop players and try to win. Plus we know Muzzin will be injured lol.

That was a "50 point PACE". He didn't do it plus he was what? 24 or 25? Different then.

I would think he wants term and I think more than the leafs will want his services but would I be opposed to him being a leaf? No.

That'd be really stupid, then. Developing our best D prospects, who should've already gotten their development time these past 2 seasons, should be top priority. Since they're the future.

They should be mainstays on the roster come next season, unless Sandin is traded for whatever reason.

But yeah, you're right. Muzzin will most likely get hurt.

As nice as it may be trying to move Muzzin, Muzzin will finish is contract with the Leafs.

I doubt it. Yeah, everyone is most likely correct that he won't be traded and will play this coming season for the Leafs, but after next season, his no trade clause disappears, and they'll most probably trade him.

Hell, if he continues to get hit in the head and gets more concussions, he might just decide to retire. And I really wouldn't blame him if he decides to do that. He's had a stupid amount of concussions the past few seasons.

I don’t think it’s certain that he doesn’t get traded. From the Leaf’s perspective, they might decide that this is Sandin’s year and Muzzin’s cap hit is too much. Muzzin could be prepared to waive for some teams if the alternative is to be the 7th guy and he’s definitely not untradeable.

After July 1, Muzzin has $6m left in total salary paid out ($2m in salary this year, and $2m in bonus + $2m in salary next year). He is 33 years old and well respected around the league, even if the last year and a half have been heavily affected by injury. He's a leader and a warrior who has won the Stanley Cup. If the Leafs were truly considering trading him, and he agreed to some destinations, I think they'd have no problem trading him.

They may not get a glorious return, but there would a long list of playoff teams who would want him.

That's my hope in this.

It would require things going in the Leafs favour, so that's why it seems less likely to me.

Agreed.

Him agreeing to waive is where I think it's up in the air.
