Elliotte Friedman on 32 Thoughts said that he believes the original deal for Mark Giordano was around 1M a year and that Giordano himself was the one who shaved it down to 800K for the team.

That is pure passion.

The guy could have gotten 3M on the open market.

He wants to win and I respect that.

Babcock was a sack of poop and all but he was right about something. Make this a place players want to come to and they will.

I’m a Norris Trophy winner and you offer me $1M? I’m insulted. $800K or there’s a horses head in your bed tomorrow morning

After July 1, Muzzin has $6m left in total salary paid out ($2m in salary this year, and $2m in bonus + $2m in salary next year). He is 33 years old and well respected around the league, even if the last year and a half have been heavily affected by injury. He's a leader and a warrior who has won the Stanley Cup. If the Leafs were truly considering trading him, and he agreed to some destinations, I think they'd have no problem trading him.

They may not get a glorious return, but there would a long list of playoff teams who would want him.

I was on the "expose him to the expansion draft" train last year b/c his salary and injuries were a liability. He was poop out of the gate ...then injured ...then he shows up for the playoffs and may have been their best Dman. With Brodie they were outstanding against the hardest minutes.

I'm all over the map on this one but I'm betting it's the Leafs that say "no" to the idea of trading him. If they did they'd need a defensively strong 20+ min per night replacement right away.

Sandin was playing some right side this past year. i think they stick with that and have Holl or Boosh as the 7th guy. Muzz/Gio get lots of time off and Sandin plays some left and right.

Yeah, maybe I should've said "retire" but used Robidas Island. Because you're right. No point giving up on $$$.

It’s an expensive workaround especially if they want to get a real Ritchie to play with Mitchie and Matthews and maybe another top 6 guy

I dont know why we are on the trade Muzzin train so much. I get the cap situation but we have seen the leafs play cap gymnastics reasonably well.

What if Sandin sucks? What if he doesn't develop into what's needed? Is everyone okay if he sucks and is the reason they lose in the first round? As has been proven over and over, depth is needed for a deep run. I'm okay keeping him for now. They can ask him to sit some games for Sandin too. I mean, it might hurt his ego but not his paycheck in the press box.

If they believe in Muzzin they should explore the possibility of moving Muzzin. $5.6M is too for the depth role you described. They should be able to get a little something back for him and it’s and as if they can get a cheaper depth replacement.

He played well when he played but it’s hard to be sure he’ll be there. In the end though he may not want to go anywhere

My napkin math has the Leafs with about 5-6M for that top 6 winger if they move Holl, Mrazek and Kerfoot.

IMHO, Mrazek gets bought out or they find a taker and eat up to 1M. If there's a taker great ...if not you buy him out. They can't have a 3.8M back up.

Engvall and Kase around 1.75M on short term. Sandin and Lilly 1.25. Kallgren as the back up and Campbell around 3.5-4M.

I'll gladly accept any team taking him but Arizona would be best.

Matthews visibly can't stand Holl the hockey player, so trading him to the Yotes ensures Matthews not going there.
