That.
The Jets built up a solid core in the first 6 years mostly based on missing the playoffs and getting lottery picks. Once those lottery picks started disappearing in the following 6 years Chevy's drafting has been terrible and he couldn't add to that core. - BWJumper
Well its been said here before but other then Helle and Copp this organization has drafted nothing but replacement level players in rounds two and later, maybe Samberg, Gus and some others change that but as of now their draft record outside of round one isn't very good.
Chevy just hasn't been active enough building this lineup, over the years there's been lots of trades involving guys with no trade protection but of course Chevy isn't in on them and excuses are made for him meanwhile these so called important draft picks that are imperative to the draft and develop plan often don't amount to much if anything at all.
A couple guys taken after Vesalainen in 2017, both to Dallas, Oettinger and Robertson... Ouch, what a miss!
Was looking back at the 2014 draft, the Jets had two picks in the 4th round that year, the Jets took De Leo and Nogier, two guys that went after were Arvidsson and Shesterkin, man it'd be nice to have snagged one of them.
Oh well, this is where they're at. If they want to be better its going to take much more than just a new coach with new systems, the Jets don't measure up well against the final 8 teams in the playoffs. |

Andrew Copp just earned us another 1st round pick this year. Now we got the 14th pick plus a pick between 29 and 32. |
|

So with the Rangers beating Carolina and advancing to the Eastern Conference Final the Rangers 2nd round pick from the Copp trade becomes the Rangers 2022 1st round pick, the Jets also have the option to take the Rangers 2023 2nd round pick instead of the Blues 2022 2nd round pick that the Rangers previously acquired.
The Rangers 1st will be anywhere from 29th to 32nd overall depending how they make out against Tampa, the Jets traded their 2023 2nd for Dillon so it wouldn't be a surprise if Chevy opted for the Rangers 2023 2nd instead of the Blues 2022 2nd, there were a lot of conditions involved in the Copp trade.. lol
So a late 1st, mid to late 2nd and Barron for Copp, not a bad haul, need to turn those picks into something good though, can collect a lot of picks but if they don't amount to much you're really not much further ahead.
Also the Jets signed their 2020 6th round pick
Tyrel Bauer to his ELC so another dman for the Moose, they sure have a glut of them. Bauer is a 6'3"/206 lbs RHD from Cochrane, Alberta who played junior in Seattle, his point totals are nothing special and even going back to bantam he didn't put up many points so guess he must be a defensive dman. |

Haven't you gotten your heart broken by Jets prospects enough times to realize the new ones are probably not that good.
Don't get me wrong I'd like to see Heinola as a Jet, but if he gets sent down to the Moose that will be 3 head coaches saying he is not good enough. - BWJumper
If you can’t see that Heinola has been good enough since he was 18, I can’t help you. The ELC slide should not have mattered the moment they knew Buff was out of the picture. They’ve wasted years of his time and development, to the point even the Moose’ coach has addressed it |

The Jets have drafted fine since 2017.
It’s the coaching and organizational vision that’s been lacking. You literally have five (5) defencemen on the Moose right now who can easily handle NHL minutes.
Gus was ready 2 years ago.
There is no excuse. We are not a contender, and not likely to become one soon. We NEED to be bringing up young talent |

Rexy, we know from past experience, about the quality of your talent evaluation.

It certainly gives them more options, doesn't it? Great win by the Rangers!
Would like to be a fly on the wall inside Chevy's office. Hard to speculate what the Jets might do not knowing the true feelings of Schefiele (appears to want out), Hellebuyck (appears happy to be a Jet) and PLD (supposedly likes it here). But is this all true?
Is Lowry going to be happy in Wpg with his father gone? (I think)
Always worried that PLD might sign an offer sheet elsewhere! Hopefully that doesn't happen! |

Might be better for Lowry not to play for dad. It can't be easy to play for a team that your father is coaching
Dubois senior is still employed by the Moose, so that has to work in Jets favour.

Lots of potential trade chips for Winnipeg. What is the general consensus on Scheifele at this point in his career from Jets fans? From the games i watched, Scheifele looked off and felt like a non-factor at times so I'm surprised to see that he was over a point per game.
I would love for the Bruins and Winnipeg to get a big trade going. |

not sure i see a fit for these two teams. of course id love Mcavoy but he's a non starter for you guys. The jets would have no need or interest in Debrusk. We have ample young D all vying for spots so just not sure how a Sheifele to Boston deal would work? maybe Lysell, Lohrei and your 2023 first? but im spitballing

Don Sweeney needs a win at the draft so I don’t they are parting with Lysell |

I don't think that I am....I like all 3 Canucks, but wouldn't trade 55 and PLD for them.

I agree. I am also reading reports that 55 is no longer available. I think he scores over 100 points next year. I am also hoping that the Jets package up their 2 first round picks and make a major move with them. This group has a 2 year window to make some noise. The time to make that noise is now!
And, on a side note. Has anyone else but me noticed all the center depth on the last 4 teams remaining? Center depth wins championships! |

55 will start 22/23 with the Jets. Depending on how the season goes both on the ice and in the room he may end up being traded either at the deadline or before the '23 draft. So much depends on the success of the next coach.

Here's what I've noticed from the final 8 teams compared to the Jets.
-The Jets defense does not stack up against these teams at all.
-The Jets top end players aren't on the same level of the top end players on Tampa, NY, Edmonton, Carolina or Colorado, I'm sorry they're just not.
-The bottom two lines of the final 8 teams are much better than the Jets are, our depth just doesn't measure up and it isn't close.
-Hellebuyck isn't a top 3 goalie in the league.

I think this is most likely, and I’d include Helle in the same scenario.
But!!
To me, if PLD won’t sign long term, then trade all three now!! We won’t win anything with this exact team minus PLD. No matter who the coach is. So stop wasting time and years, re build it now to re build it faster |
