55 will start 22/23 with the Jets. Depending on how the season goes both on the ice and in the room he may end up being traded either at the deadline or before the '23 draft. So much depends on the success of the next coach.

You can’t look at all 4 teams and say this is what they all have (like Center depth ) as the reason they are here. It’s just not true!

Oilers have Mcdavid, that’s it!! They are in the top 4 because of him, and him only

Avs are a deep team that is lucky to be playing against some awful goaltending

Tampa is a proven winning team with an elite goalie

Rangers have an elite goalie!!!!! And there young kids have stepped up huge, which has been fun to watch

If Trotz becomes HC of team, It wouldnt be a surprise if Isles & Jets come together on a trade of some sorts....

You kind of forgot about Draisatl. He is the only player that has put up 50/50 seasons since Evgeni Malkin did it in 2010-11.

That Evander Kane guy and RNH are not half bad either.

Mcdavid has carried that team this playoffs more so than any other on that team, and it’s not close. So no, I didn’t forget about anyone else. No mcdavid and that team doesn’t make the playoffs.

Considering that Draisatl has matched McDavid almost point for point these playoffs. Your comment might be at a bit of a stretch. Without Draisatl, this team does not make the playoffs either.

Been watching the Rangers/Lightning series pretty closely. I do have to say that Trouba has been playing really good. I said it then and will say it now, the Jets did not get enough for Trouba. This also got me thinking about the pricing of a number 1 right side defenseman. We traded away Trouba for Pionk and a first round pick.

Wonder if we could trade Pionk and a first in this years draft to get a number one right sided defenseman. It was the going rate for one just a few years ago.

I'm a big Pionk fan but not a chance and there's just no 1st pair RHD that'd be available, likely no 2nd pair RHD would be available either.

Honestly though if Pionk was 6'3" 210 lbs the Rangers probably wouldn't of traded him.

The year the Jets traded for Pionk, I do believe that he had the worst analytics. Now that his analytics have improved, we can move him with a first round pick for a number 1 defenseman.

Trouba’s agent made it public knowledge to all teams calling about Trouba he was only going to the Rangers. No where else. Chevy did pretty good to get what he got in that situation.

I have to call all other 31 GM’s in the league to find this information. Could you please pass along their phone numbers? Once I call them all, I will let you which defensemen are available for that price.

it is tempting the think about the situation that way but it is a lazy answer to the whole scenario.

We had a cap team, an emerging young right side defenseman about to be UFA and had no intention of signing in Winnipeg and had quietly let it be know he intended to sign with the Rangers. He was #2 RHD after #33 on the Jets. Chevy managed to get Pionk and mid first round pick in a trade that had very little leverage as teams knew he would sign with the Rangers. Jets got Pionk and 1st instead of one year of trouba at #2RHD. Jets used the cap space saved to pay KC and PL - making cap space to retain these players by signing them is the neglected part of the trade, the Buff situation became a fiasco that exacerbated the loss of Trouba.

If there was a team with a player who was 1 year to UFA RHD who was their #1b and really wanted to play for the Jets and that team needed cap space it would be difficult to justify offering more than a 1st round pick. I am not aware of a situation like that in the NHL that would recreate the dynamics of the trouba trade but if you hear of one when you phone the 31 GMs let us all know.

I’m not saying anything negative about Trouba, but there is a certain Norris trophy candidate that sits ahead of him on NYR depth chart.

Either, but does make for less pressure to produce points and such.

Could probably be argued that Trouba gets the tougher assignments which allows Fox to do his thing.

This is a great point. Gerard Gallant is comparing Trouba to Scott Stevens. And, according to many Jets fans we should be trading Scheifele for a defenseman exactly like Trouba, whom we traded Pionk and a first for.

On another note, I think Bruce Cassidy would also make for an interesting coaching choice for the Jets. When the Bruins played the Jets this past season, he was accurately able to assess the weaknesses the Jets had. I would be okay with him taking the helm, if Trotz chooses not to sign here. Preferably I would like both. One as head coach and the other as associate, for when Trotz eventually becomes GM.

I see Mason Marchment is a UFA, who Florida may have trouble squeezing in under the cap. I think he’d be great as a middle six player on the Jets.

I'd be good with a guy like Marchement - or, say, a guy like Ilya Mikheyev from the Leafs. Both the Panthers and Leafs have cap issues.

Not sure how many guys that are UFA's will sign in The Peg - but you never know. Give them the right situation and ??? Since Marchment's pop played here, he'll be aware of what he is getting into. Can. taxes vs Florida are an issue I hear.

Possible that Cassidy was the only coach to say it publicly ?

Marchment was basically at or around league minimum. At some point location should become secondary when another team can offer far more $ and opportunity. I think he would deserve a 3 to 4 million dollars, which many contenders couldn’t touch.

Still wonder if the Panthers don't fit Marchment in. If they can get rid of two-of-five contacts - Bennett, Verhaeghe, Reinhart, Hornqvist, Duclair - they can save about $6-$9 mill and fit a few other players in. Reinhart and Hornqvist the lost likely.

Problem is like $3 million in Wpg is like $2 million in Florida (maybe I exaggerate?). And saves moving family or whatever if Marchment is married. The selling point to him might be a lot more playing time - and possible points which would equal more $$$. I'd buy it if I were him!

I agree with most of this. I think Verhaege is more valuable to them then Marchment, not sure on Bennett or Reinhart cause I just to see enough of FLA to chime in on those two. I do agree on the discount one would take in Florida, but like you mentioned, what is that discount cap? 30% at most?
