You're right, clearly Bortuzzo can somehow contribute to his team's success since he won a cup and is now in the 2nd round.

It's not fair to compare him to a guy that's so broken, he couldn't get dressed more than 2 games in the first round.

- Scabeh

poopbag players win cups - just like a hobo winning a lottery. No big deal, doesn't make Bortuzzo anything but a goon there to remove skill from the game.

seeing how Mcdavid is playing in the playoffs, I am really hoping Matthews wins the Hart, so we can see the meldown after

See to me this feels like saying in soccer I don't know why you can't elbow a ball into the net if your not tall enough to get up over the other players during a corner kick to head it in.

Wikipedia has this as part of their explanation of hockey, I'm not saying they are the ground truth on all things but it does paint the picture of what hockey is all about and the mention of a stick and shooting the puck into the net using the stick seems to be a fundamental part of it:

Ice hockey is a contact winter team sport played on ice skates, usually on an ice skating rink with lines and markings specific to the sport. In ice hockey, two opposing teams use ice hockey sticks to control, advance and shoot a closed, vulcanized, rubber disc called a "puck" into the other team's goal.

But yes, I'm a grumpy traditionalist when it comes to hockey for sure.

End of the day the rule as it's written now sucks and leaves far too much gray area - I think most people agree with that?

- Cush29

Well then the refs should call the penalties and sticks won't be held or impeded and they wont have to kick at the puck.
And yes that totally should have been interference.

It would be wrong if we see a strong negative reaction or backlash if Matthews wins the Hart.

Goal scoring is far and away the most challenging skill for any NHL player. Anybody who goes 60+ goals has had a career year and deserves special recognition.

I expect that Matthews will win and McDavid will set the tone for everyone else. I expect that McDavid will be very gracious in his response to Matthews being selected. Other than for a few people on the edges nobody would likely choose Matthews over McDavid if you were trying to draft from scratch. But, purely in the context of this regular season, Matthews had an outstanding season and is most worthy of the recognition.

Why would any oiler fan have a meltdown? They are seeing their team and the best player in the league by far win several rounds and step up big when it counts.
As a fan I would prefer that over any individual trophy for any player on my team.
AM scored 60 goals....hart to compete with that.

Agreed - seems poor officiating is the root of many issues in the NHL.

Been saying it all year; NHL has no (frank)ing clue what they're looking for with "kicked" goals.

Between that and goalie interference, it's a total crapshoot about what's good or not.

Yup. It's a joke.

I can't see how they can fix it at all, but maybe make it a bit better by taking all power away from the refs on the ice. They don't get a say. At all. And have a guy whose only job is deciding.

That way, at the very least, the calls could become consistent.

They are in the Flames blog while others (several Oilers fans) are telling them to suck it up and that it was the right call. A little spicy in there but nothing like if the Leafs were to lose in a game 7 in the first round......oh wait a minute I feel like we all lived that recently.

Because Tampa beat Florida, and Edmonton beat Calgary, the #LeafsForever first round pick has been bumped up two spots from 28th to 26th. If the New York Rangers come back to upset Carolina, that will bump it to 25th.

That is so overly dramatic.

Bad calls for you and against you. Good calls for you and against you. Fans are going to whine in any sport.
