Wait it’s Gillis’s fault Gorton rebuilt quicker than Benning because Gillis’s teams couldn’t draft Higher because they were too good?
Weird take - golfingsince
So according to you being good must mean you can't draft
Shea Theodore was drafted 2 spots after Hunter Shinkaruk.
Anaheim must have been a worse team to be able to draft a better player a couple spots later.

Pretty solid job, worst to top 4 in a hurry. Loaded with young talent. - golfingsince
I was over at Grayhawk watching the NCAA Men’s championship final, Texas Longhorns defeated ASU, anyway…..Groton got rid of bad contracts and cleared up cap space where he made better decisions with that said money. Not sure why he was fired? |

No.
According to you Gillis should have selected Krieder and Miller who were already selected when we drafted. I stopped reading at that point

Getting 24 year old 51 points in 81 games Zibanejad with a 2nd round pick for
Derick Brassard · $3,000,000
2018 7th round pick (NYR - #194 - Luke Loheit)
Would be pretty sweet as well. That has got to be one of the worst trades in Ottawa history. - manvanfan

Gillis was horrible at drafting but generally speaking, as you know, but you like to argue, getting better players is easier at the top of the draft than later in it. Especially in the first round. But yes. There are always examples of good players from 15-32.
Like you said yourself the other day, after the top five there’s generally a big big drop off. While Benning was missing at #5 Gillis was missing at #25 and making the playoffs. |

Getting a Vezina goalie probably helped as well. Planarian signing as a UFA, they made some smart moves. |

Well you said something that wasn’t true , trying to make a point which made no sense. Gorton rebuilt, Benning spent all of his cap space propping up one of the worst teams in the league and cost himself draft position by doing so. It also handicapped his teams moving forward.
It’s incredible you can spend all day here and have no idea what’s going on. Are you an Eklund alt? |

Maybe. The Rags are deep as well, great goaltending. The Bolts do have a ton of experience but NYR has been getting plenty.

I wasn't talking Benning vs Gillis, I'm talking whoever the Rangers GM's were during the Gillis era.
Out of those Rangers players, there is 2-3rd round picks, 4th round pick, 28oa, a 6th round pick, another late 2nd.
You always talk about needing to be better in later rounds. That's what I'm talking about. If you don't hit on the late first or any other round how do you create any currency. You are always buying and trading.
Satiar Shah said today on whatever program he is on,
"If you can't draft, you can't create any currency and your team will suck"
The Rangers had all sorts of currency from drafting well. Makes the rebuild a lot easier when you have currency. |

At the end of the day you’re absolutely 100% correct, you gotta hit on picks from round two on even if you pick later in the rounds. At least occasionally. That said, for every player that turns out good from 15 - 32 in any round there’s seventeen kids who aren’t very good. It’s such a crapshoot.
No excuses though, you’ve gotta be better than the rest of the franchise’s scouting teams. Not an easy task. |

You say you have to draft higher to get a better player. Better tell Tampa Bay that after getting Brayden Point in the 3rd round or Kucherov in the 2nd round.
Who was talking about Benning? I didn't mention him.
What's more incredible is you once claimed to be "above average intelligence" but yet you having to be helped a lot. |
