Rangers draft picks in 2014;
Draft Num. Pick Round Player
2014 Entry 59 2 Brandon Halverson G
2014 Entry 85 3 Keegan Iverson C
2014 Entry 104 4 Ryan Mantha D
2014 Entry 118 4 Igor Shesterkin G

2014 Entry 140 5 Daniel Walcott LW
2014 Entry 142 5 Tyler Nanne D
They planned that Shesterkin pick perfectly. - PatC80
It's not their fault they felt comfortable enough waiting to draft a guy who had a .947sv% as a 17 year old on the most famous team in the MHL. |

I'm not sure how anyone can watch hockey and say this and believe it. The Flames who during the season looked like a lock to take Colorado to the wire in the semis barely made it past Dallas and followed that act up by giving up 4+ goals in 5 straight with a Vezina nominee in net.
One of my best friends is a diehard Flames fan, he said Calgary played to maybe about 10% of the level they dependably hit every game this season, and would have been just as on point to have just forfeited every game against Edmonton. I watch a poopload of Calgary myself and they were a complete shell. - joel878
I watched the series.....edmonton played well, had the flames so that they couldnt do anything.
Ya the flames wasnt great for sure and the oilers took advantage.
Too bad the leafs couldnt take advantage of a goalie not playing well. |

Kuemper was ready and dressed last night. Avs do not have the same reliance of brilliant goaltending that other teams might have. That backup has won 6 games in a row. - winsix
They had a 3 game lead, they aren't playing their starter unless he's 100%. That backup gave up 5 goals last night and had an .857 sv%, like a backup.
Yes Colorado doesn't rely on their goaltending like other teams, but also the comment had nothing to do with Colorados overall goaltending and everything to do with Mike Smith being a can. |

No it's not their fault, they are however fortunate, or very lucky that he wasn't drafted by some other poophole team earlier.

Still cannot believe Holland went into the playoffs with Koskinen/Smith thinking "this is just fine".
Did he even believe his team could win with this duo? |

Agreed. Well see what they can do to pull it off. I wish Forsberg could be fit, but I know he cant. He'd be great on the second line. - Archaic
I love Foppa, but I don't think Peter's ankle is good to go. |

It's true and you have to think his teammates are a bit tired of it, they have to be silently thinking "Mike that was your mistake just stop your embarrassing yourself".

The oilers have to move on from him in the off season. |

I can agree with that. TBH when Kane who is a proven douchebag (several times over) only got a single game suspension I was pissed. Kadri got 5 games for a much lighter hit on DeBrusk (who did not miss a shift) Kane a famous NHL bad guy gets one game and seriously injures a player. More of the same from a former goon running NHL supplementary judgement. - winsix
Agreed on the Kane / NHL DOPS bring a total WTF group.....the inconsistency and just general WTF from DOPS is staggering.

It’s too much for him defensively. He’d be much better better on the wing. - Canada Cup
I totally agree. Tavares would be way more effective on the wing because of his lack of speed. He would easily be a 100 or more point winger IMO and still take crucial faceoffs.

They could always bring him back as a backup for cheap.
But he cannot be their starter in net if they have any hopes of winning the Stanley Cup.
Which is where a healthy Carey Price at half the cost would come in but his knee looks done.

He had no choice.
Couldnt get a goalie...also had no cap.
He grabbed Kane and he worked out. |

Oilers cannot afford Price....why even bother.
Sure SMith as a back up, but then they need a legit starter. |

Why, it is consistent with other bad signings. Codi Ceci, Tyson Barrie and Darnell Nurse among others. No surprise here, Holland is a lousy GM, one of the worst in the NHL. He can't take credit for having McDavid and Draisaitl on his team. He may be marginally better than Chiarelli but only that.

I think they could afford him at 5.5M.
This being said, it's a moot point until he's healthy. Which might be never.
Last year's Carey Price in net for Edmonton and that series would be a whole different story.

Too bad your comparing apples to oranges in that last sentence.
You are comparing the Flames as a team not playing well and the Oilers taking advantage of that to Vasi not playing at his god-like level and the Leafs not taking advantage of that? That's an unfair comparison no?
I mean you at least have to give the Leafs the benefit of an acknowledgement that Tampa as a team played much much better than Calgary did as a team vs Edmonton.

Big time....except old Kenny Holland gave him 2 years at 2.2 M per so they have him for another year.
https://www.spotrac.com/n...t%20of%20%242%2C200%2C000.
Unless they can trade him........Mrazek for Smith straight up? To me that's just the Leafs banking on Smith getting LTIR'd and gaining his cap space. lol

Agree, Leafs lost by a single goal, that SV% might have taken a tumble due to facing the best scorer in the NHL.

Maybe they take a gamble on a kid from out west who may want to come back towards home....the original "nicest goalie in the league".
James MF Reimer.
They would have to make a trade with the Sharks as Reimer is under contract next year for 2.75M but they also have Skinner in Edmonton who is supposed to be their net starter - Reimer and Skinner combo?
Hell I'd take Reimer back in Toronto as the back up over Mrazek! lol

Probably no?
I mean Muzzin is still a good defenseman while Quick could be renamed "Slow" and no one would bat an eye.
