Big time....except old Kenny Holland gave him 2 years at 2.2 M per so they have him for another year.
https://www.spotrac.com/n...t%20of%20%242%2C200%2C000.
Unless they can trade him........Mrazek for Smith straight up? To me that's just the Leafs banking on Smith getting LTIR'd and gaining his cap space. lol - Cush29
Mike Smith is paid 2.2M per season?

Kenny Holland doing Kenny Holland things! lol
Duncan Keith, Nurse, Hyman and Smith deals are all ones that may stink in the very near future. If he can resign Kane god knows how much he will give him! I'd be terrified if I was an Oilers fan.....

Probably no?
I mean Muzzin is still a good defenseman while Quick could be renamed "Slow" and no one would bat an eye. - Scabeh
Muzzin is probably slightly overpaid this season but likely does the job in the 2nd pairing.
It is the year after where he projects to be pretty overpaid and its where he loses his value in a trade.
I'd trade him there for picks, I just don't know what he is worth. |

Kings want a veteran Left handed D man
I would never say never
Muzzin for Quick, Leafs say yes or no? - Santo_44
LA has to eat salary - Quick is at 5.8M.
Muzzin + Mrazek for Quick at 50% + a pick / prospect?

While I would do that, would LA eat that much potential dead cap for that 2nd season?
Is there a "Joey Anderson" the Kings could send for him? |

Same idiot GM gave Ceci $3.25 x 4 and traded for 38 year old Duncan Keith., he's way worse than Benning ever was.

Muzzin did the job for a very short but very important chunk of time. Keeping him is a gamble for next year and a bigger gamble for the year after, especially with Sandin who will improve while the bearded one regresses.
There are probably teams willing to take a chance on him. It’s just not clear if those are places where he’s willing to play. |

Still cannot believe Holland went into the playoffs with Koskinen/Smith thinking "this is just fine".
Did he even believe his team could win with this duo? - Scabeh
To be fair to Holland, the goalie market as it was for the leafs at the deadline was poop. However, I do think Holland needed another goalie more than the leafs and I felt a Reimer trade or someone similar would have been just fine for them.

I bet he wants to stay here, he doesn't get a choice next year so if a team at the top of his list wants him now maybe he says yes? |

He would have to agree to the trade. He does not have to agree to any trade until Jan 1. This puts him and the acquiring team at a significant advantage. For example he says I am only willing to go to team X. Team X says we'll give you a 7th but you have to eat 50% of his salary. To avoid this scenario, Leafs will have to wait until his NTC becomes a Modified NTC. If he has a decent first half, Leafs could get an asset or two and clear some cap room for the TDL.

Too bad your comparing apples to oranges in that last sentence.
You are comparing the Flames as a team not playing well and the Oilers taking advantage of that to Vasi not playing at his god-like level and the Leafs not taking advantage of that? That's an unfair comparison no?
I mean you at least have to give the Leafs the benefit of an acknowledgement that Tampa as a team played much much better than Calgary did as a team vs Edmonton. - Cush29
I dont think its unfair but I completely agree that tampa did play much better as a team than the flames did. However, the leafs are a much better team than Edmonton.
The leafs and tampa are closer overall than the flames and Edmonton were IMO.
Markstrom was bad and oilers also get some credit for making him looking bad.
Vasi didnt play great and yes the leafs get some credit for that, but he also just wasnt good some games. Had he played better, I think we'd have to recognize that the leafs may not have gotten to 7 games. Specially if Vasi played like he has since first round....outside of one game against the rangers. And of course the same would be said of edmonton, they would not have won in 5 had markstrom played better.

He also has 6M of salary owed in his final 2 years after July 1st, advantage Leafs |

They got their moneys worth out of hyman...this year.
I didnt understand the Keith trade.

Muzz may want to stay.
I thought he did a great job against Tampa.
I think fully healthy, we see old reliable muzz back and helping the team

Hyman is a $5.5M cap hit until age 35 (6 more seasons) not many think this is a good deal for the Oilers. Edmonton has to overpay - probably for the same reasons that Pronger and Bryzgalov cited.

I would be giving even minutes with Gio and Muzzin this year. Manage them a bit because we all know the playoffs is where everyone wants to be.

Clearly, if he wants to stay that’s the end of the discussion. And yes he was good in the playoffs but he was bad to start the year. I just think the combo of the downward trajectory, $ and crowding out Sandin makes it worth something Dubas needs to explore |

I know someone mentioned it earlier in the thread about Statsny. He's going to get a deal with someone for cheap. I don't know if it'll be the leafs but man it wouldn't be the worst idea. |
