Neither him or DeBrincat would be cheap, but those are two guys you trade the farm for. I like Fiala, but I'm not totally sold. He'd certainly cost less than the other two. No reason Boston or Chicago has to trade either guy, so that certainly won't help the cost.

edit: but like this guy said:

No question about it, with Pastrnak, DeBrincat, Kevin Fiala, Johnny Gaudreau, and Filip Forsberg as all possible available players this summer, Lamoriello has to find a way to retrieve one of them. ⬇️ #isles

Sooo… hypothetically speaking, what would DeBrincat cost the Islanders?

Wahlstrom, Barzal, Dobson, a first, and a 6th rounder.

You had me until 6th rounder. That’s just one step too far.

Let’s keep the 6th, and I’ll include the enamelled remains of Trotz’s 2020 playoff beard instead.

A lot imho. I think that’s why Fiala can work as far as cap hit and pieces needed to make the deal. Cap space will be tight but I believe it can be done.

Out of all the names mentioned Fiala makes the most since for the cost and impact.

Palat is a FA. 31 but he’s clutch. Not sure TB intentions but he’d be nice w JGP or Nelly.

They are missing Point and Palat is definitely stepping up.

If they don't get Forsberg, go after Nichuskin.

As for Wahly trade him in a package with Bailey and a pick to free cap space.

Trade Varly at the draft.

Wahlly was putrid the last 1/4 of the season but I believe we’ll regret trading the kid if we do. Has a rocket of a shot, plays with an edge, and can skate. Still developing player whose salary isn’t impactful.

Depends on who it's for. If we're trading him for cap space it's dumb, but if he's going for DeBrincat who's only about 3 years older and is already an established high-end goal scorer....I don't have a problem with that

Yeah sure of course but I think that’s more of a pipe dream then anything else imo. I guess you can hyphenate my post with “unless a real high caliber player is coming back”. It seems some on here are in a rush to trade him which I think is a bit short sighted. The kid will have a reasonable salary for quite some time and I think he has a pretty high ceiling. His shot(which is pretty damn good) is enough reason to give him a bit more time on this team of players who seem to detest shooting the puck

Yeah I'd like to see what he can turn into for sure. There's a ton of potential there.

Would make sense to move Wally for DeBrincat. I move Bailey for Cap space and not Wally.

Easy with the trade Wally talk. The Islanders fan base is also known as Wally World!

I spoke to Barzal. He told me there’s no way he’s trading Wally. He knows Islander fans are just crazy about him.
