Contracts go up though. We’re getting to the point where elite players are going to be paid 9-10+ million. The next mega star to sign a contract will be over 13.

Tkachuk at 10 million will probably only seem high for the next 2-3 years.

Ok Hunkulese which one is it? No one’s paying Gadreau over 10 mil? Or Tkachuk @ 10 will only seem high I for 2-3 years?

lol remember when Flames fans were whining and laughing at the Draisaitl contract now one of the best values in the league. Not saying Nurse will win the Norris but does have the potential to be a 50-60 point man with the right systems. Time will tell...

Do you really think 9 goal Nurse will become a 60 point player? I’d say 50 is a long shot.
Playing with 2 of the top offensive players in the league will inflate his points but don’t see him as an offensive threat. Bouchard has more offensive potential if he can figure out where his own end is he could become a very good defenceman for the Oil.

Especially since Woodcroft took him off the pp to focus on being a shut down guy.

Who’d you rather have 35 point Nurse at 9.25 or 50pt Anderson at 4.25?

Check out when they were born, big guy.

Stop with the weird obsession you have. Why are you giving me creepy nicknames? I don't swing that way.

So Tkachuk being overpaid early, and possibly for the entirety is better than paying Johnny for his past, current, and possibly overpaying for his future/last couple years?

As an outsider, I don't think either are 10Mx8 investments. But if I had to go 1 it's Johnny. Preferably 9-9.5x8yr for Johnny and 8.25-8.75Mx6yr for Matty and hope he agrees seeing one more big payday at 30 on the entire free market.

Johnny is over a PPG player on his career, Matty is closer to .8PPG. Both have playoff droughts. one is tougher and younger, one is more skilled and consistent. Both are very nice pieces to have, but neither are considered elite leaguewide. Next is up to management and how the player is actually seen by the organization and not just the fans. They each bring a different element, both can be valuable. Basically would you rather have a Marchand or Point?

Age has something to do with it, but talent and production is probably a better factor. Don’t think Tkachuk hits 100 points unless he’s playing with a elite playmaker.Gaudreau makes those around him better, just look at Monahans #’s. So overpaying 19 hoping the salary cap goes up is a bad idea. Tkachuk has already come out and said that his brother went too easy on Ottawa, to me that means he’s looking at 10 min but probably higher. He’s a great player but not worth that $.

If you look at what was considered the best line in hockey before this year (The perfection line) not one of those guys was making over 7 million. I know the cap was lower when they they signed their contracts, but it makes no sense to me to lock up two wingers two a quarter of your cap, especially when your 2C is 33 years old and there is no one to replace him in the pipeline.

I can’t see a way where we sign JG and MT without creating some big holes in the roster.

Sell high on Chucky! Love him on our team but we cant afford what you just mentioned. Jersey for the #2 OA & a nice young piece Sharagonovich sp? would be a great return. Give Mangi his 5.5 mill per on a 5-6 year deal with assurance he will get a good long opportunity to play on top line & we can perhaps retain Gudbrandson & Zadorov & Kyllington. Would be the smart move.
