So Tkachuk being overpaid early, and possibly for the entirety is better than paying Johnny for his past, current, and possibly overpaying for his future/last couple years?
As an outsider, I don't think either are 10Mx8 investments. But if I had to go 1 it's Johnny. Preferably 9-9.5x8yr for Johnny and 8.25-8.75Mx6yr for Matty and hope he agrees seeing one more big payday at 30 on the entire free market.
Johnny is over a PPG player on his career, Matty is closer to .8PPG. Both have playoff droughts. one is tougher and younger, one is more skilled and consistent. Both are very nice pieces to have, but neither are considered elite leaguewide. Next is up to management and how the player is actually seen by the organization and not just the fans. They each bring a different element, both can be valuable. Basically would you rather have a Marchand or Point?
