Provocative thinking on your part.

Many believe that regular season and playoffs require different styles in order to be successful. Leafs, on the other hand, believe that their offensive style of game will work for them, even in the playoffs. Leafs are not alone. Edmonton follows a similar template believing that in order to win they need to focus on outscoring the other guys (Tampa believes they can win if they are effective in stopping the other guys from scoring).

I think it would be exceptionally good for hockey if the offensive game were promoted and the defensive game was more limited and restrained by the officiating. How could you not love the Calgary/Edmonton series? It was played on a race track with lots of goals, bad goaltending, hopeless defending and a thrill every minute.

It’s amusing you think my comment was provocative- it was a joke to get some chatter going in here with a dash of “it’s possible”. 🤣😎

I picked the leafs and avs in the finals. I was almost right. The cup finalist came out of that matchup lol

I also had the avs beating the leafs in the finals.

This is where I am. First of all in my playoff box pool I had picked almost all Colorado and Tampa players (in my other pool I picked Toronto to beat Tampa; I don't look at that pool anymore). I am going to win that pool, I think. After the Leafs lost I wanted to see Tampa move on selfishly, but also as a proving stick to where the Leafs are.

"You want to be the best, you gotta beat the best"

Well, poop. We're not the best.

But we're getting there.

That sounds very dynasty Oilers vs the Islanders before the Oilers started to win.

How ecstatic would Leaf fans be if that was the way this played out?

God I’d have to sit down every 10
Minutes due to the lack of blood flowing above my waist! 😁🤪😎

Interesting article in one of the sites we can’t link to (the one with the word Nation) about goalies. Analytical piece that shows Campbell middle of the pack and Mrazek at the bottom on most numbers: goals saves above expected, save % above expected, high danger shots, etc.

Gibson looked ok on saves (maybe accounting for so-so defence) but very good on the high danger stuff which is something Leaf defence gives up a poopload of. Interestingly, Eric Comrie was at the top of saves above expected. Murray was in the top third in most categories.

No way the Rangers do it, but I would trade any Leaf player not named Matthews for lafreniere

It is more than that. There is a general consensus that teams play a different game in the playoffs than they do in the regular season. Everyone knows officiating changes during the playoffs. More important, the President's Cup winner for the best team in the regular season never wins the Stanley Cup. This year, Florida was never a serious Stanley Cup contender even though they had a great regular season.

It looks like McDavid and Draisaitl will go 1 and 2 in the final playoff scoring race. McDavid is 14 points ahead of the next guy that is still playing. Is there any other sport that changes things so dramatically in the playoffs?

The Oilers are a seriously flawed team and the Panthers were never as good as they seemed. I’m not sure the beat anyone other than Caps or maybe Boston in the playoffs this year.

Seriously flawed is code for inadequate goaltending and defensive play.

Still think there is a hockey trade to be made around Gibson / Mrazek - with F swaps and picks to give Leafs cap space and stock up early round picks.

I think it’s easier to bounce the Czech and buy him out. It saves $2.8M and $3M in the first years and costs $1.4 in the next two years.

Had to double check and make sure you didn't sneak Drysdale in there...

Mrazek @ 2.6m cap hit would good no?
for Kulikov or maybe Middleton depending if he's qualified and if a deal can't be reached that is satisfactory between he and the Wild.

There’s no way I would give up assets for Mrazek at $2.6M (unless those are absolute dumps)
