I think there’s an open debate as to how much form Gibson still has; maybe more than many believe. Somebody is going to roll the dice on him and he cou’d turn out to be a real difference maker or the next Mrazek.
Either way, that kind of proposal doesn’t likely come close to working. - Canada Cup
My first thought was no, he's in full decline. Then I recalled a couple of other goalies we signed who's numbers and careers seemed to be falling off.... Joseph and Belfour.
They worked out OK. |

I do think there is risk in trading for Gibson, probably a big risk.. The past few seasons his numbers have not been good, but if the Leafs are going to lose Campbell and the uncertainty around Mrazek, then they need to take the risk and trade for Gibson.
Make Gibson your #1 and Kallgren as the backup.

I figured as much..
I think it's a risk that the Leafs may need to take, if Campbell walks..
I don't see another goalie out there that is as good as Gibson. They can try to sign MAF to a 1 yr deal but then they'd be in the same situation again next season |

While I agree, only if the price is reasonable to acquire him. No way anyone should be overpay for such a big risk.

this makes more sense to me, gives you another year to see what else pops up
if you go for Gibson and he is not much better, well you are screwed

Gibson led the league in saves above expected from high danger spots, a real problem for the Leafs. Obviously they’re going to look at a lot of data and won’t get him, just hoping he’ll be better. If they get him, it’ll be because they think he fits. The best we can do do is look at little snippets of information.
But I do think they’re going to try to get the best guy they can or get a couple of guys they think have the potential to do if and let them fight for the net.
As far as I can see (and I’m a bit of an expert only because I paid a lot of money for goalie lessons for my kid), there’s Gibson who could be the real thing and there’s a bunch of so-so options. |

Pierre has his crack team of financial advisers working up options for Canadian currency for when he becomes supreme leader. Dried beaver dung is said to be the current favourite. |

the main issue with the beaver dung is that their KKK AB base keep eating them, there are no reserve. |

I agree, outside of Gibson I think the best option might be MAF or Ville Husso.. I could see Fleury getting a good contract from a team, maybe even the Oilers... Husso, I think he'll re-sign in STL or, get a Mrazek type deal from another team

Id prefer MAF on a 1 year deal.
No sense giving up assets for a goalie who has performed just as well (or bad) as a goalie we already have. |

I agree here, but since I dont know much of anything about goalies, if the Leafs think Gibson can regain his 2018 form...then great...better work
but to this point in the Dubas era, I am not super confident in the goalie expertise of the team so far. a lot more misses than hits

Unless he performed better. Or maybe he was much worse. It depends on which criteria you use. Actually it doesn’t depend on that at all. It depends on which ones the Leafs think matter |

The Oilers got to the conference final with Mike Smith. Colorado is in the Cup final and Kuemper has a save percentage under .900. No one know anything about goalies.
Just have to hope and pray you can find a goalie that can steal a game for you once in a while.. I think Gibson can still do that.. I don't think Campbell can. |
