i see bryson tossed in as an add on a lot of trades... what is his value? - SabresFaninIndiana
Can't picture it being too much. One would figure that every team has its very own "Bryson" in their system somewhere. I was surprised to see just now that he played in 73 games last season. He did so very quietly in many of them. |

Which as a 3rd pairing is a good thing. If you are hearing too much about a 3rd pairing or just one guy, it's probably for all the wrong reasons (Matt Irwin, looking at you bud) |

Oh, shots fired at Matty I. You're next, Taylor Fedun.
Yeah, I tried to form an opinion on Bryson during the season. And like you alluded to, typical of his position, had some ups and downs. Good speed, 2nd PP time, got pushed around a bit.
The original point was about his value to other teams in a trade. And it can't push the needle a lot other than the obligatory throw-in. And we always seem to loving having one or two of those throw-ins on the squad for trade speculation. |

For sure, I get it. I was just replying to the sentiment that you don't notice him a lot, being kinda good for playing as many games as he did. Just means he did his job. But yeah, I also agree that he doesn't move the needle much, but most sweetners don't. Like, yeah the Vegas 2nd is nice in 2 years, but if it was in or out, most wouldn't care. |

3LD just aren't that valuable. Very easy to replace. Bryson also doesn't fit very well on this team, buried behind 2 far superior offensive LD.

How much? Base is only 4M, so pump his stats and double retain to a contender. As mentioned above, Bryson is nice, but he's not nor will ever be the turkey. |

I view his worth as about a mid 3rd rd pick
he's not a liability on the ice

Gotta put in a PSA for Amtrak. 1000% better than flying unless you charter a netjet or something. Took Amtrak home from Pittsfield, MA last hike, and I will never fly again when I can possibly go by train. As I type, I'm on a train to Rutland, VT to do another 200 miles on the Appalachian trail in this area. My coach Amtrak seat is 2x as big as a business class flight seat, i can get up and buy a lunch any time i want, free wifi, plenty of charging ports, booze if ya want it, and nobody treating you like cattle. There's no security. You seat yourself. You deal with your bags yourself. And my ticket from Buffalo to Rutland...$86. Less than one tank of gas in my Nissan Frontier.
If any of you remember flying pre 9/11, when you could travel and still enjoy yourself, this is better still. I'll never set foot in an airport unless it's international or I have to get across country in one day. Amtrak is a hidden gem. |

no need to retain, as the sabres are not spending to the cap
bryson for jvr and a 2nd
flip jvr and retain the max to another team for a 2nd at the deadline

Do they have the Acela up there? Took it from Philly to DC. Took me longer to get to 30th Street station than the train ride. Not cheap so not sure I’m doing it if I can’t expense it. |

I think Acela just runs from DC to Boston.
Unrelated to anything, don't know if anyone's mentioned this dynamic to be. But the first thing I thought of after Torts was named skipper of the Flyers was Risto. He competes like a Torts-guy, but I look forward to some shots of the bench after Risto notches another minus as he's caught flatfooted, guarding nothing and nobody. |

11 hours total travel time from Buffalo Depew station to Rutland, VT (Mt. Killington). I'm in Schenectady right now till 5:30. There a nice Irish pub right across from the train station, so I'll just hang here till 5. My next train leaves 5:30, and pulls into Rutland at 8pm. |

From what players say in podcasts, Torts is a great Xs and Os guy and a hell of a teacher. He might be the guy who unlocks Risto - he's got as good a chance as anyone for sure - but it's unlikely. Risto has gotten $50 million from the NHL playing his game. I'd be shocked if he suddenly became a high hockey IQ player, but I've been shocked before.

Guys in my office don’t like the hire. I was surprised because one of them has a Dave Poulin jersey hanging in his office! It’s definitely from the Mike Keenan era by the look of it too. At the very least they should be able to look forward to Torts’ post game pressers. |

Wouldn't Risto be a great #6 for us? He could focus 100% on being an elite skating goon. Put on another 15lbs of muscle and just kick the crap out of people for looking at Dahlin. 14 minutes a night. Perfect fit. |

It was a hire better suited for a team on the brink of true contention, not the playoff bubble. But he does seem like a Philly-guy, and it'll be entertaining. From you you say about the office mood, it already is. |
