Funny let's stay away from college kids no matter how good they are, because they might not sign with us. Well maybe if you actually tried to make it look like you want to win, it probably wouldn't be a problem. - Buff36
Funny, the better the college player, the better the chance they have multiple options and choose a different team. |

If KA’s options at 9 were Kemell, Lekkerimaki, or Nazar, who would you guys like to see drafted? - PrinceChill
Tough one. If only those 3 I say lek today. |

Every league has there own rules on that, if your team isn't a sh!t show you really shouldn't need to worry. |

Johnson and Portillo are on the prospect camp invite list. If they don't show, then I'll be worried. - kaleta36
The list isn't out yet, but both should be at camp. The last draft pick I can recall that didn't even bother coming was gustav possler.
Injuries aside. |

The better the player the less likely they are to wait 4 years to turn pro. The system is rigged in favor of the NHL teams and against prospects/younger players.

I have a theory. Hear me out!! That a decade of Sh!t could have some cause for certain players not wanting to be here. |

True, but he is still the best bet at 3b. This Carpenter thing is fun but very temporary |

Don't get me started on 'want to be here' when most of these guys are more or less forced to be here. - Lunaion
Very True!! I just don't like the theory of not drafting College kids because they might not sign. Basically have that in every league. If you have a well run Organization, it shouldn't be a problem. Sucks to say but the Sabres bring a lot of this crap on themselves, just horribly run the last decade. |

It's just backwards to me. You have an advantage taking non-CHL players later in the draft because you hold their rights longer. This isn't a college problem, it's just where lower rated players go and sometimes they end up being late bloomers. The exact same thing happens with the Euro leagues.
VO signed just before they lost his rights. JB got him signed.
If Hagel wasn't a CHL player, that likely goes a different way.
Mid-Late CHL players are the real risk.

Really need to get away from the idea that college players are the bigger risk. - Lunaion
It is the risk of wasting 4 years of involvement with said player, only yo have them leave.
The combination of a below average team/organization and college bound is a high risk.
Vessey, Peterson, Johnson, Levi, Portillo.
If that doesn't cause one to give their head a shake in this context, what would? |

Think it's more organization at this point, think things are changing now hopefully. But the last 12yrs have had a lot to do with it. |

So is Husso worth a 4yr 3.5-4m a year deal. |

So would anyone trade Girgensons for Calgary's 2nd and Lucic if he waved. |

To me, it is a combination.
I mentioned in my original post in response to 34's Q... about the org side of it, and it is very true.
We haven't seen this with other draft choices. To me it isn't a mere coincidence. |

Could be, but most leagues have a out if the player chooses it, whether it be 3yrs- 4yrs or European. These kids aren't stupid, they see things and hear things. Lot of those college kids are well of already, what's 1 more year of school and then I have my choice. |
