👍

I'm hopeful the team scores more goals, as well as dahlin hopefully being 15 points better.

I get the idea that Samuelsson will jump up into the play more than joker, who had 19 points in 60 games.

Possibly more regular pp time?

- Boss34

I'm confused. You're expecting Samuelsson to get PP time?

2015 pre draft: three 1sts (one being Eichel who was talked about as generational. Reinhart, Zadorov, Risto, girgenson, Grigorenko, pysyk, Mcnabb, compher, just added kane at end of 2021.

Or 2022 pre draft: three 1sts (none being an Eichel talent). Cozens, Krebs, Quinn, paterka, power, Dahlin, tage, Samuelson, joker.

2022 definately a better roster but it’s not like we are a playoff team or even near one. I would say Eichel and Reinhart Trump power and dahlin. Rest of the prospects at the time had almost as much potential as our ones now.

We need to wait until 2023 to make splash moves IMO. Make some smart positive moves this year. See what we even got

- Fattony1187

I’m just so confused as to what the difference waiting a year makes.

If a player is available who will help in 2022 and beyond and is young why would you need to wait?

The guy we pick at 16 and 28 is 5 years away minimum from being in his NHL prime

That’s 2027. I’d like to think the Sabres plan on being good before then

In 2017, Colorado finished with 48 points after 82 games. 21 points worse than the second worst team in the league that year.

5 years later, they are two wins from a cup, and that Cale Makar guy is the best d-man in the league.

This is what building a team with multiple top 5 picks looks like with the right management team and an owner that doesn’t meddle in anyones business.

Nate Mackinnon, Cale Makar, Bowen Bryam, Gabe Landeskog all top 4 picks. Mikko Rantenen went 10th.

The benefits of being plain bad for nearly a decade. Imagine that

Flyers PP was beyond atrocious. No clue if any deal would on the table.
- furio16

agreed

I only listed playoff teams from this season on the list for examples

Need to change your mindset. You want to make the best hockey moves, they are going to make the best financial moves.

Alex Newhook had two assists last night. Having guys on cheap ELC’s is extremely important on a cup contender when you are spending to the cap.

you also have to draft better with your first rd picks outside the top 5

more Rantanens, less Girgens/Caseys

this colorado team has literally nothing to show in the big leagues from picks 2nd round and later for 12 years

Luckily enough for them they have Sakic and an established analytics group that turned Barrie into Kadri, brought Nichuskin back from the KHL, and spent several mid round picks on Toews and Lehkonen

Not their picks, no. But Toews and Girard are a big part of their team, 4th and 2nd rounder, respectively.

The Avs are absolutely loaded and are maybe the fastest team ever.

They’ve done everything well.

Again, I don’t see the problem with adding established NHL’ers if the situation comes about.

I don’t either, but if our analytics department is up to snuff we may not have to move 16 and 28 to add established talent either though.

All great points, but to be fair, mackinnon took a massive pay hit to make this happen

You were the one making that exact argument years ago with GMTM

Check the date he signed the deal and say the above in bold again...

They signed him long term before he broke out.

Fortunate forsure though no doubt.

Could say the same for Leon in Edmonton. Except Ken Holland is a stiff and just wasted two historic individual performances by McDavid and Driasatil this year because he put out a blue line of Nursetolianen, Barrie, Ceci, and a 75 year old Duncan Keith and Mike Smith

He could have made $1-2M more though if they signed him a calendar year later. They were fortunate

Though he is probably underpaid by $5m -$6m per year for the last 5 years out of the 7 year contract term. So I do see what Pegs is saying. Edit: Lulags.

A bridge contract back when he was 20 would have been the better move, certainly in hindsight.
He probably would have had at least an Eichel contract for those 5 years, maybe more....that's $18m foregone.

I would think he should get ~ 14.5% of Cap =~$12.0m per.

Has to be extremely difficult for a 20 year old to say no to $44M, despite what his agent may advise him, especially with the two seasons he just had at the time.

Agreed....learning experience I would say.
Let's say he banked 15% of his $44m, that's $6.5m, a nice bank account... with a freakin massive payday ahead. I hope he has a new Agent.

This. He was offered life-changing money at the beginning of his career and he took it. I think it is unfair to say he or the agent screwed up.

The above is the hope for getting Tage to sign this offseason, before he has another season or better to really cash in.
