Pretty sure Bergeron said it's either Boston or retirement. I think that was based on the typical Montreal rumors for a French Canadian. |

Anybody have an idea of what Ville Husso would be asking for if he decides to test free agency? Wouldn't mind if Pens were taking a look at him... |

e79 that the actual conversation played out like this:
"Hey Sid, we brought in a French guy you played with back in the day!"
"Is it Dupuis or Talbot?"
"No Sid, think jr hockey linemate"
"OH SICK, PATRICE BERGERON?! Like from World Jrs, awwww yeahhh"
"Not quite. Hey guys, please welcome MA Pouliot back to the NHL after being in a Swiss beer league for a decade." |

I've been on the capfriendly.com boards. A lot of those dudes must have never watched the pens. They want to give a 2nd for Kapenen. I'd take that and run all day. |

If they could get Bergeron instead of Malkin, and for cheaper, they should.
But they can't. Boston or retirement. |

Oh man I would LOVE to see all of the Boston fans explode into rage if the Pens signed Bergeron. |

It would be nice to see Bergeron on a second line to actually match his production |

According to Evolving Hockey (take it for what you will) Husso will be looking at a deal similar to the one that Linus Ullmark got. 5M x 4 looks to be the general estimate. That seems like it'll be a no go for Pittsburgh.
I think Pittsburgh's best option is to try to get MAF at a ridiculous discount... seems pretty unlikely to me though. |

I figured he'd be out of our price range, but one can dream - thanks for the info!

Thoughts on Gibson FOR Jarry + Marino + 2nd or 3rd?

Thoughts on Gibson FOR Jarry + Marino + 2nd or 3rd?
Saves $$, and upgrades in net... - mventres Absolute no. How does that upgrade our tending? Last 3 years Gibson has only won 47 of 141 decisions, GSAA of -19.3(Jarry's is a +33.5), save % of .9 and GAA of 3, plus Jarry's 2 years younger and an all star 2 of the past 3 years. I wouldn't swap them 1 for 1 let alone adding Marino and a pick.

That would be the best possible outcome of the Geno situation period. If it’s slightly possible the pens should just start offering Bergeron a deal instead of Malkin. |

So slight upgrade (maybe) in goal at about twice the salary for a cost-controlled top-4, a 2nd, and a 3rd? I'm gonna have to go no.
Granted, Jarry's going to want Gibson money or better after next year, but still...no. |

I don't know why we would be trading Marino in a deal like this. Also, you lose cap space on this deal. Marino is a decent 2RD, you are not finding his replacement for less than $2M.
Someone mentioned it the other day but Jarry & Pettersson (and sure, throw in a prospect or pick) and I would do it all day long. In that scenario we have POJ ready to step in.
I'm good with trading Marino and I think he has fairly decent trade value but just not in this proposed deal.

If the Pens had any chance of getting Bergeron that would be incredible. Our only hope is that he decides to play and the Bruins GM gets Richardy in contract negotiations.
If you have the choice between Bergeron and Malkin, its Bergy all day long. |

In the comments of RW's Mario Lemieux Day blog a week or so ago I was talking about Mario's biography I received for Christmas when I was 12 and some of the things talked about it in. I thought this chapter was 4 but it was actually 2. |

Maybe Bergeron can go captain the Habs....if they snagged him AND Letang all the Frenchies in Quebec would be blowing their loads.... |

Not really an upgrade in net, Gibson hasn't been that good for the last few years. Losing a RD in the process is a terrible decision.

Imagine a world where Geno and Letang are signed, and Bergeron and Giroux take tiny salaries to join the Pens so they can load up for one more major run. It wouldn’t happen in any form of reality, but what a story it would be.
