Thoughts on Gibson FOR Jarry + Marino + 2nd or 3rd?
Saves $$, and upgrades in net... - mventres
Not even sure I'd do Jarry for Gibson straight up right now. |

Imagine a world where Geno and Letang are signed, and Bergeron and Giroux take tiny salaries to join the Pens so they can load up for one more major run. It wouldn’t happen in any form of reality, but what a story it would be. - Rinosaur
Thats quite the moonage daydream you're having there.... |

Gibson has actually won a playoff round in his career so he’s not a good fit for the current Pens team. |

If he has an injury history, he'll fit in perfectly here. |

Detroit sucking for a decade has nothing to do with 4 straight years without a series win for the pens. |

Are you comparing the current Pens to the current Wings? Not a very high bar. |

The Penguins are literally on the same trajectory as the Red Wings, not sure if this is as much of a burn as you think it is.

does it suck continuously losing in the playoffs? Sure...would it suck more to have missed the playoffs for the last 10 years, absolutely.

So where are we at?
Guentzel-Crosby-Rust
Zucker-?-?
McGinn-Blueger-Carter
DOC-?-?
Matheson-?
Pettersson-Marino
POJ/Friedman-Ruhwedel
Jarry
?
I didn't include Dumoulin because that's the easy obvious move, but he's still here. Did I miss anyone else with a contract?
Basically no 2nd or 4th line, top pair defense, or backup goalie. Mid July can't get here soon enoughm |

Oh and leave enough cap flexibility to sign or replace your starting goalie Jarry and 3C Blueger (Carter not really that) the following year. |

Likely what happens to the Pens post Sid/Geno just like it did with Detroit Post Z/Dats.

Not really an upgrade in net, Gibson hasn't been that good for the last few years. Losing a RD in the process is a terrible decision. - j.boyd919
I would say that it is a good upgrade in net. Gibson has been on a horrible team, and if you get past the statistical consequences of that, has played well and doesn't get hurt often. He is locked up for a number of years through his prime, and Jarry will get a raise to at least $5m/yr next year...maybe more depending on how next season goes. I just see Gibson as somebody who instills more confidence than Jarry...
Marino at $4.5 is way too high. Sure, he is RHD, but that's overpaying imo for what he brings. Likewise on Demoulin, but he's UFA -- either one in the deal, or Petterson, and I would be OK with that. |

It’s a lateral move at best. Marino at 4.5m is easily fair market value.

I'm not sure how much he's going to get in the open market, but Nick Paul should be a player the Pens go after if the cost is reasonable. I'm sure lots of teams will be in on him, so my guess is he will get overpaid. |
