Anybody here get the vibe that Letang is going to see what offers he gets on FA day, and let the Pens match the best one, if they are willing?

Would be the smart thing to do. He's in the driver's seat.

He’s going to Detroit to to play in a sheltered role behind Seider. And Malkin is going to Detroit to play with better wingers.

Uh yeah. He and Malkin both. Why wouldn’t they?

The real question is how did Boyles surgery go? Is he resigning or joining the coaching staff?

Yohe today said Pens may be willing to let Malkin see the market because they think he won't get the offers he thinks he will and would then come back at a price they are willing to pay.

I would say that it is a good upgrade in net. Gibson has been on a horrible team, and if you get past the statistical consequences of that, has played well and doesn't get hurt often. He is locked up for a number of years through his prime, and Jarry will get a raise to at least $5m/yr next year...maybe more depending on how next season goes. I just see Gibson as somebody who instills more confidence than Jarry...

Marino at $4.5 is way too high. Sure, he is RHD, but that's overpaying imo for what he brings. Likewise on Demoulin, but he's UFA -- either one in the deal, or Petterson, and I would be OK with that.

That's in line with a big minutes RHD. They get a little more just because there aren't enough of them for every team to have two.

I am not okay with it, but i am more okay with playing chicken with Malkin than Letang. I get their logic that Geno probably isnt going to get the offer that he thinks he will, but it will only take one team to make a stupid offer that either Penguins have to pay or they lose out on him.

For Letang... I would literally give him a blank check and tell him whatever he wants he'll get. You can replace Malkin's production, you aint replacing Letang.

Gibson 3 years ago? Sure. Gibson now? Probably not.

Likely what happens to the Pens post Sid/Geno just like it did with Detroit Post Z/Dats.

Interesting. I think someone will make him a better offer than the Pens. Maybe even an over-pay.

I get this feeling more and more they want to replace Malkin with a 2 way center who plays a more responsible game/plays more of a Sullivan type of game. I think they are pretty close to resigning Letang

Rank your centers in terms of responsibility. 3 years 5v5 data. Extremely similar usage in terms of zone starts etc.
