They offered Trotz double John Cooper's salary and he turned it down. If that is true, it's as damning a mark against this franchise as there can be.
- PLindbergh31

Well they are also saying Tortz wants a management position and wants out of coaching, so there is that. Or it could be that he just didn't like where the Flyers are right now. I am going to sit back and wait to what he does before I cast aspersions.

On a brighter note, nobody is accusing anyone of being on “team negative” anymore. Everyone is now a full fledged member.

Because the folks who post that drivel don't think. They have kewpie dolls they like to stick pins in and just transfer those feelings to Torts. The same is true for the TK hate. We'll see what he makes of them.
- iamscore2day

If Provorov plays like he did last season, then Torts will not be impressed. The amount of puck handling errors he made was alarming.

This one in the final game summed up his year.

Im just telling you he is pretty much gone. Many people have stated Debrincat is on the move. Just google his name and many well known sources have him being moved this off season
- xShoot4WarAmpsx

He has 1 year left on his contract and the qualifying offer will be around $9 million. Chicago is going into a rebuild and doesn't want to pay that for a guy who will probably be closing in on 30 by the time the Hawks are competing again.

Trotz apparently wants to move into management in the next few years. Flyers probably didn't offer that.

trotz turned down 7 mill because he either wants to be close to home (Winnipeg) or in management (buying a house in Nashville). Not because DET/WIN are in that much better shape then PHI.

if he wanted to win now (already has one cup by the way), none of the teams mentioned would be a first choice, regardless of money.

Personally, I think this is a great hire. It's just opinion... but Torts has proven what a mediocre roster can do when each player is held accountable.
If he can get the buy-in and clean up the defensive zone, then we should see career years for guys like Provorov and Carter Hart... and certainly much better numbers from a guy like Risto. This type of hockey is going to come at the cost of players like TK cheating the blue line, but I see players like Owen Tippet doing very well in it.

I'm of the opinion that if there are no game-breaking superstars on your team, then you better play the right way and bring the energy every night.

Also, I'm in agreeance with many of you: I think there is a hockey trade to be made for TK, but please don't touch our Draft Picks to make it.

Maybe he wants more than cash. And maybe he'd take less cash to get those other things.
- Scoob

One thing he doesn’t want is anything to do with the Flyers franchise.

It isnt a mark at all. Trotz is picking a location that works for his family. I dont know that WPG is still in it but that would likely be his 1st choice. Money isnt everything.

7 mill is nice but if Trotz doesnt feel he can turn this team around, why would he sign here. The goal of every coach is to win a cup. He interviewed with the Flyers 3 times. His decision wasnt based on on the organization as a whole. It was based on the fact other teams are a better fit. If he didnt have interest in signing with the Flyers, he wouldnt have interviewed 3 times, one of which was an im person interview. You dont travel across the country for a job interview you have no intention of accepting.

Do you think the Flyers offer increased his price tag with other franchises?

They are going to dig up a couple of more Rags coaches.

Maybe Tom Renney and Ron Low.

Flyers offer gives him negotiating leverage for more $$ but part of playing that game is understanding that it may drive teams away and you would need to be ok signing with the flyers if teams dont bite.

Maybe Trotz is a big beer guy and the brewery offer got him lol

So then there is one reason he interviewed 3 times. To drive up the price along with other perks.

Torts will deal with physical mistakes. All players make them. It's the mental mistakes that will incur his wrath. Torts will get Provy to play within himself and stop trying to do too much IMO.

I don't know, I think TK is the kind of player that might thrive under Torts.

Not sure who the Flyers could get for TK alone, but LA will not be adding either of Clarke or Turcotte for him.

I could see maybe Grans, who could be a great pickup, and/or Vilardi, but I don't see him thriving in Philly.

- Glak18

I can probably see this. Kings have already kicked tires on Konecny

This team is going to be 20 points better next year no matter who the coach is . the key is going to be what kind of impact he makes on these players for the long haul and what type players they bring .

I can confirme they know each other well, when Torts arrived in Columbus Duby was his eyes and ears in the locker room.

As for Torts , if you're a player you either love him or hate him, he can squeeze every once of talent out of his bottom 6 guys. In contrast he will expect intense backchecking even from the guys who are earmarked goal scorers , hence the frustration of Laine and a few others. As for goaltending , I hope Hart is strong minded ...

- Alexzanki

Dubinsky sounds like a class guy. The house snitch and now he throws Torts under the bus.

I wouldnt say no matter what. Ellis being out will really hurt the team if he is not ready. Fletcher will add a player but chances are they will be a band aid fix like Braun was.

He wasnt fired. They mutually parted ways when his contract expired. There is hardly any info on most the coaches out there. Do you know who interviewed

Blashill, Cassidy(aside from Vegas and PHI), Tochett, Maurice, Tippitt, Deboer ect.

I know some guys interviewed with PHI but outside of that, nothing. I didnt even know Cassidy interviewed with Vegas until he was hired.

Torts walked away last season. He might have just wanted to take a year off. Coaching is a lot different than most jobs, theres always an opening at some point so it is not like guys are scrambling to find jobs

Torts will be tough on Ivan, but let's get real here... he's not gonna be in the doghouse. RR too... Torts will play the heck out of both of them, no matter what.

Sanheim is the one that's in danger, because he's not "hard" enough in his own "endzone".

Yea his comment is pretty pointless. No one cares what he thinks. Clearly he has some grudge against Torts and is trying to remain relevant.
