Despite the giggling hosts this podcast interview with Nolan Allan was nice to find and listen to. Seems to me he understands his role and what his strengths are as a hockey player. https://open.spotify.com/...G8-DZjQnKJQBB0_Ibjmg&nd=1

Even if he doesn't want him, KD can qualify Strome with the minimum raise on a 1 year deal. And when his agent starts asking for multiple years @ $5M, dump him in a trade for a draft pick asap.

I'm sure you are watching the playoffs Mr. R - in high gear Strome moves at the speed of Tampa's 4th line. It isn't good enough and garden snails like him never get to touch the puck playing against teams like Colorado, Florida, Edmonton, NYR and name a few more. And KD knows it.

- RickJ

I'm not as sour on Strome as you are Rick but understand his limitations. I agree his foot speed is a detriment but IMO he thinks/processes the game fast which helps negate that to a degree...... If a BUFF, CLB, DET, PHI got the 2nd half of the yr Strome he'd be a decent 2ish yr bridge to a better player. No, Strome isn't gonna match up with final 8 teams in the playoffs but that's not the intention with the above clubs. Just a reasonable 2C that can skate with better players and play some PP for teams not yet ready to go deep, or even make, the playoffs.

My only point is asset management, period. Hawks need swings in the draft, as many as possible.

Has it been confirmed that Ryan Huska even had an interview with the Blackhawks, or is this a way for someone (Kevin Weekes) to get a name into the coaching interview process?

I wonder what we were offered for STrome, Kubalik and Dehaan at the trade deadline. I know you do not want to give people away at way below market but even if we get 4th-5th round picks type of return it would seem like the wiser move. seems Odd we kept all 3 to just walk away. You would think teams just might look at both as UFA's and just done Q them if they dont want or cant afford. hope Im wrong. I think with Dehaan the best offer had retention and he did not want to retain for a mid round pick (was our last slot till next league year)

another RFA with ARB rights. Ethan bear was giving permintion to talk to other teams. I assume to see if they can get a contract worked out and then send something to carolina. I think everybody wants to Avoid ARB.

C'Mon, for deHaan yes a 5th or a bag of pucks would of been acceptable, but this BOD would call for KD's head if all he got were 4th or 5th rounders for Kubalik and Strome. IMO, if KD was offered a 4th or 5th at the TDL, he could get at least that for the signing rights to the 2. Worst he does is qualify both (he has the cap room), and hopefully they overperform, and you can get late thirds for them at this year's TDL. You still have to put out some semblance of an NHL roster. Even in exhibition, I think you have to have a minimum of 8 veterans dressed.

I am going to bet this is more about hi8s entire move, the stage they announce the signing, and not wanting it to "upstage" the Cup Finals.

Maybe they said fly here and will to the press announcement and he said he wanted the family and move in place before just arriving.
He is the coach, not the new chief scout, or draft pick.

His job basically starts at the rookie camp.

I see why he/they might want all the ducks in a row, because, right now, it isn't signing a UFA, or anything that changes any thing right now....

I agree. Could be Huska agreed to the job in principle, but wants to sleep on it, or make sure the family is on board.

Also could be not announcing it until the Cup finals are done.. Dallas looks like it is delaying the DeBoer announcement.

What happened with Richardson? Did he tell the Hawks to pound sand?

Recency bias? The Richardson story was two days ago, and Huska was yesterday from Kevin Weekes in a video he tweeted, so it must be true.

This is what a goaltender loss looks like. These are the 5v5 numbers from Game 3 from Natural Stat Trick.

The most telling numbers, COL was 0/10 on their high danger chances, TB was 4/9 on theirs.

Corsi 56-34 COL
Shots 22-17 COL
xGf 1.98-1.84 COL
Scoring chances 38-20 COL
High Danger SC 10-9 COL

Good to hear from Allan, but that interview was like Chris Farley on SNL interviewing Paul McCartney. "That was awesome".

5th team as HC. Averages about 3 years a team before getting fired. Rinse, Wash, Repeat.

If KD plays his cards right he may be able to get the Hawks into competitive territory in 4 to 5 years. If ADB is really being shopped and can command a first this draft along with more picks or prospects. Then if Kane is disillusioned and asks out can he command a first (+) this draft? The Hawks then have two firsts in ‘23 and ‘24, assuming KD doesn’t do something dumb. Then of those six let’s say four make the NHL and of those two are top six players, and hopefully one is named Bedard. Next season Matthews becomes a UFA, if the Leaves can’t sign him and if the Hawks are positioned well maybe they can take a run at him? Lots of variables but KD has some potential options, all he and us need to do is cross our fingers, and maybe our toes too.

I've been thinking of a Debrincat return. For Hagel KD got quantity over quality. Maybe he takes quality over quantity for Cat and gets fewer but better pieces. The 2OA plus Holtz from NJ? Or the 2OA and 2 lesser prospects? Or an early 1st round pick. 6 or 9 from Ottawa or Buffalo plus a combination of at least 2 more high picks/prospects? The lower the 1st round pick, the more/better assets attached.

As for Kane, maybe he waives after Cat traded. Could be later this summer after the draft. Would Kane do Hawks a favor and agree to an extension after July 12 and trade to maximize the return for the Hawks. If a team wants cost certainty and they have Kane for say 4 years, KD could get a Debrincat type return - 2023 1st and 2 or 3 more pieces.
