Drafting the best goalie prospect in this draft makes sense at forty-whatever.
Should have drafted a goalie over Rosen.

I don't always side with Gerbe's intuitions and hints and whatnot, but I think I side with him regarding the Russian thing. This iteration of the Sabres has shown they're not afraid of Russians and I think they're going to take advantage of hesitant teams in two weeks, given the opportunity. If Yurov slips to 16, I think they jog to the podium.
In a relatable tangent, I hope they make Russians comfortable once they're in NY. Kisakov is all alone, I don't know how his English is coming along. He could use a buddy in Rochester. Or at least a Russian/bilingual development coach. Seeing how Antipin was handled was embarrassing. - TheSabresTaco

I guess we get to find out if Levi and Rosen are better than Cossa and, I don't know, Justin Sourdif.
My objective opinion is we got the better deal than the alternative. I love Rosen, he absolutely dominates his peers. His stock is low like Quinn's was going into 21-22. The wagon may be empty but tickets are free for the first 100 people.

Do you worry that something has changed (Ukrainian war) vs. Drafting russians last season (pre-conflict)?
I'm not sure if that's the safe , kyvynv way of doing business.
I like the perspective

Kyvyn doesn't do safe at the draft table. He picked a Russian nobody in the third round, and a Russian in the 6th round. Late round Russians have extremely low probabilities of ever coming over, which is why I think he chose a very safe, low ceiling defenseman able to play in the KHL at 18. He picked Josh Bloom, who had not played a game in an entire year (or so). Characterizing Kevo's way of doing business shouldn't be perceived as safe, so much as calculated. Him and his staff seem to have a solid grasp on short and long term view, roster construction and using his draft picks to mine boom or bust talent where applicable rather than low end, high probability players that will at least make the AHL.
To answer your first question, there's been no hint up to this point that the NHL is going to remain all too affected by Russia's transgressions in Ukraine. If these kids want to play in the NHL, they will need to terminate or let their contracts in the KHL run out. Once that happens, as Kisakov is about to show us, they're free to leave. |

I think whomever wrote that is (frank)ing full of it.
If Nashville is shopping him already, being the 11th OA pick just two years ago, that's a major red flag. |

Alternative could have been Wallstedt and Denisenko. Wallstedt did just put up sub 2.00 GA in 22 starts in the SHL. Long way to go for all prospects involved, so not that I'm complaining and do think Rosen will be good. Lots of puzzle pieces and Adams is honing in on his guys, starting with Quinn and JJP. Will be interesting to see how it all unfolds. |

They were never, ever going to attach Denisenko to that trade. Come now.
After the year he had, maybe they'd reconsider, I don't know. But certainly not at the time of the trade.
Adding 4 top 41 picks is going to make this pool of kids look a hell of a lot more interesting and that's not including Q, JPP or teh Powah |

Oh wow Paul Maurice is going to replace Andrew Brunette. Trotz is still unemployed yet two potato sacks in DeBoer and Maurice gets their gigs in the carousel. (frank)in' league. |

Why not? They traded a top 10 pick in Tippett and a first for 2 months of Claude Giroux. Tippett has actually shown more comparatively then Denisenko has at this stage of their respective careers.
It will be for sure. |

Trotzy does not currently have a job because Trotz hasn't liked anything that was made available to him. I don't blame him for turning down most of these teams. |
