THE ATHLETIC: Arthur Staple raised some eyebrows in his roundup of offseason decisions facing the New York Rangers. What drew considerable attention was his report citing two league sources claiming general manager Chris Drury was “vocally unhappy” with Artemi Panarin’s performance in the 2022 playoffs. Panarin had 16 points in 20 playoff games but wasn’t as consistent as hoped for. Despite the 30-year-old winger’s hefty contract Staple speculated he could request a trade if there’s a rift developing with Drury.
this is rich since Drury only scored 8 points in 21 playoff games for the rangers

I remember Drury's time here with the Sabres fondly as a " gamer" in the PO's...to which he was nearly a 1.0ppg those 2 years here. (31/34)...it was a slight increase over his regular season rate.
Panarin's production dropped pretty significantly in the PO's from his regular season rate for the Rags.
He has a point.
To he whom much is given, much is expected. Your Best players need to be your best players in the PO's. |

he had 16 points in 20 games
5 points in the 6 games vs bolts
bigger problem for rangers was lack of secondary scoring

Any dollar amounts out there for either yet?
Feels like both are deals that won't be finalized until their respective teams can do most of their other business for their team cap hits, i.e. sweetheart deals. - kingcong39

Right. Produced as follows:
-Regular Season @ 1.28 ppg (96 / 75)
- Playoffs @ 0.80 ppg (16 / 20 ) as you stated.
That is a drop-off of 37%+. That is significant.
Paid $11m+ , man that's alot of bread |

I thought he was a healthy scratch for a number of games in the 19-20 season, but the on the active roster rule is almost impossible to figure out as teams play games with that sort of stuff via paper transactions all the time, and I don't know of any site that tracks that.
I've reached out to CapFriendly and other sites in the past, and even they aren't sure. - kingcong39
19/20 is when he was recalled for 1 game, hurt his shoulder, and missed the rest of the season. I believe that counts as a season towards UFA, since he was on the NHL roster.
His 38 game season in 20/21 probably counts as well, assuming pandemic rules lowered the game requirement.
I'm not 100%, but I think he's UFA 1 year after his current deal.

They just said they think Bergeron will be around his last contract 6.8m with something tacked on. Smith is just a handshake until Vegas can clear a bit more space. Both teams have until October to clear enough can be 10% over until then I believe |

The point was made that Drury had no business based on the number of points scored in PO's to ridicule Panarin's points in PO's. That is the context.
In that context, Drury actually elevated his scoring rate (admittedly small) in the PO vs Regular season, while Panarin's dropped 37.5% this season.
Context is the comparison between 2 players.
Keep up. |

Well, during the PO's he fell to tie as 4th leading scorer from 1st in Reg season.
All the while Zibby, Fox, Krieder, Chytil, Miller, Vatrano upped their scoring rate.
Drury is justified, especially in closely contested games. |

Drury never compared himself to Panarin.if he did, then you may have a case, but he didn't.
As GM, it is within his purview to hold his players accountable. If, by extension part of that requirement for you is having "been there, done that", I suspect you would be ok with BrisBois with no NHL player experience, not changing players out for wilting in the PO's? |

Let's panarin stew on his playoff performance for the next 10 months.
I think it's good management.
Everyone else basically stepped up, panarin didnt..
